Loki Fights Frog-Thor In Newly Released Scene
Disney can’t seem to stop robbing its fans of their guilty pleasures. First, they changed the name of the cantina music from Star Wars to “Jatz” and now, thanks to a recently released deleted scene from Loki season 1, it’s been revealed that the house that Mickey built also robbed fans of a scene featuring the mighty Throg in all his web-footed glory!
The scene in question comes while Mobius (Owen Wilson) is showing Tom Hiddleston’s Loki one of his “failed coronations.” The two watch as a scene with unfinished CGI plays showing Loki on a dais addressing the citizens of Asgard.
The deleted scene was released on YouTube to promote the recent release of Loki season 1 on Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
Marvel’s god of mischief is in the middle of spinning a yarn about how his dear, beloved brother Thor has gone “missing” and is presumed dead when a bolt of lightning strikes the stage, delivering a very irate Throg at Loki’s feet. The warty warrior swings his miniature Mjolnir and launches himself hammer first at his adopted brother’s face, delivering a haymaker that staggers Loki.
The scene is absolutely adorable, and while the series as it aired did feature a blink-and-you-‘ll-miss-it cameo from Throg—or Frog Thor—the fact that we were denied this tiny snippet of Throg in action is nothing short of criminal.
The deleted scene was released on YouTube to promote the recent release of Loki season 1 on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. While it’s sad to see that the show’s creators chose to excise such a great scene from the finished series, the fact that it’s available now—and on physical media, no less—is great news for fans of the series.
As streamers continue to pull content from their services that aren’t available anywhere else, the potential for digital-only movies and series to be lost forever increases exponentially. That makes it all the more refreshing when a platform like Netflix or Disney+ releases its IPs on physical media. Even from just an archiving standpoint, it’s important for shows like Loki to exist somewhere outside a server in some Disney-owned warehouse somewhere.
The Mighty Throg
Throg made his first appearance in a 1986 issue of Thor in which he was revealed to be Thor himself, transformed by Loki into a frog. A second version of Throg named Puddlegulp would appear years later in 2017’s Mighty Thor #700. Anyone interested in a deeper dive into the Frog of Thunder can read more about Throg here.
The Throg from the deleted Loki scene is most likely the original version of the character, seeing as he appears right after Loki gets done mentioning his brother. If that wasn’t a big enough clue that this Throg is actually a Thor in disguise, the voice in the clip sounds an awful lot like Chris Hemsworth.
Is Throg In Loki Season 2?
While no one yet knows what the upcoming Loki season 2 holds, there’s one thing the creators could include that would not only break the internet but make up for the Throg scene not making it to air: a no-holds-barred fight between Throg and the alligator variant of Loki.
One of the unlikely highlights of Loki season 1 was Alligator Loki, who quickly became a fan favorite “character.” A cage match between him and the frog version of Thor would be absolutely bonkers—in a good way!
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until the Loki season 2 premiere on October 5 to find out if Lokigator vs. Throg is going to be a thing. In the meantime, they can always play the deleted scene of Throg smashing Loki in the face over and over while they wonder what other treasures Disney kept from them.
