Lindsay Lohan was one of the biggest child stars on the planet between the late ‘90s to the early ‘00s, starring in hit films like The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Shortly after the release of Mean Girls in 2004, however, the actress’s personal issues began to overshadow her career, and it got to the point that nobody credible in the industry wanted to work with her. Fortunately, the 36-year-old star appears to be on the verge of a comeback, with MovieWeb reporting that her latest film Falling for Christmas is currently the number-one movie in the world on Netflix.
Falling for Christmas marks the first major role for Lindsay Lohan in over a decade, with the actress spending years relegated to minor roles in independent features and multiple stints on reality television. The holiday movie premiered on Netflix on November 10th, and according to FlixPatrol, a website that tracks all film and television titles climbing the charts on several streaming platforms around the globe, Falling for Christmas has claimed the number-one spot in the world on Netflix’s top ten chart. That’s quite an impressive feat for the star who took a long break from acting to focus on opening nightclubs overseas.
In the new Netflix romantic comedy, Lindsay Lohan portrays Sierra Belmont, a young and newly engaged heiress. In the days leading up to Christmas, she experiences a skiing accident and is diagnosed with amnesia. Shortly after, she finds herself in the care of the handsome lodge owner and his daughter.
Although Falling for Christmas has drawn comparisons to by-the-number productions found on The Hallmark Channel around the holiday season, Lindsay Lohan has been praised for her engaging energy and natural charm. On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the feature has a score of 55% from reviews by 31 critics. The audience score is considerably higher at 68% from over 100 viewer ratings.
In addition to Lindsay Lohan, Falling for Christmas stars Chord Overstreet, George Young, Jack Wagner, Olivia Perez, Alejandra Flores, Sean Dillingham, and Aliana Lohan. The latter is a singer, actress, and television personality, and Lindsay’s real-life sister. Janeen Damian helmed the feature from a screenplay by Jeff Bonnett and Ron Oliver.
Damian and Lindsay Lohan are also teaming up for the forthcoming romantic comedy Irish Wish, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix sometime next year. That film will follow a character named Maddie, who discovers the love of her life has gotten engaged to her best friend. She is forced to put her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland.
It’s certainly refreshing to see Lindsay Lohan making headlines for something that doesn’t involve her having a run-in with the law. The actress announced she had plans for a Hollywood comeback in December 2019, and we’re glad to see her goals are coming to fruition. The future once again looks bright for the star, and we look forward to seeing her in more projects down the line.
