Lily James Cast Alongside Willem Dafoe For New Film
Lily James has been involved in some hugely popular shows and fims lately, and now her newest film will see her partner with Willem Dafoe.
Fresh off of her starring role as Pamela Anderson in the Hulu limited series Pam & Tommy, English actor Lily James seems to be making fantastic decisions for her up-and-coming career as an actor. Starting with a successful run on the television series Downton Abbey playing Lady Rose MacClare, James transitioned into film with the lead in 2015’s Cinderella opposite Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, and Helena Bonham Carter. Since then, she has taken on various roles on television and in movies, particularly Baby Driver and Yesterday. Now, it appears that Lily James has just been cast in a new film that will costar Willem Dafoe.
According to a report by Deadline, Lily James and Willem Dafoe have joined the cast of the upcoming film Finalmente L’alba. Finalmente L’alba translates to Finally Dawn and will be directed by Saverio Costanzo, the Italian director who brought the world the television series In Treatment and HBO’s My Brilliant Friend. The plot of Finalmente L’alba is still undetermined at this time, but The AV Club has confirmed that the indie drama will also costar Stranger Things actor Joe Keery and Shiva Baby’s Rachel Sennott. While still in pre-production, Finalmente L’alba will begin filming later this month in Italy under a shroud of secrecy since the producers have yet to detail anything about the characters that these four actors intend to portray.
With a stellar cast, Finalmente L’alba looks to be an encouraging project for Lily James and the rest of the ensemble. James has been on a roll lately, choosing work that has gotten her a ton of attention, including the upcoming movie What’s Love Got to Do with It? where she will star alongside heavyweight actors like Emma Thompson. What’s Love Got to Do with It? will premiere at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival, just as James will be in Los Angeles attending the Primetime Emmy Awards. She is currently nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her critically acclaimed work on Pam & Tommy, which costarred Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee and Seth Rogen as Rand Gauthier. Rotten Tomatoes currently ranks Pam & Tommy as Certified Fresh with a 79% on its Tomatometer based on over 100 critics’ reviews.
Along with Lily James’ career taking an upward swing in the right direction, so too has her costars in Finalmente L’alba. Actor Willem Dafoe has been nominated for the Academy Award four times for performances in films that span over four decades, including At Eternity’s Gate and Platoon. He will next be seen in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things in 2023. Joe Keery has risen above his Stranger Things counterparts with appearances in Free Guy and the upcoming role as Gator Tillman in FX’s anthology series, Fargo. For her part, Rachel Sennott can currently be seen as a featured actor in Bodies Bodies Bodies alongside Pete Davidson and will be premiering Susie Searches next month. Sennott has also finished filming the television series The Idol, which costars Lily-Rose Depp, The Weeknd, and Troye Sivan.
