Liam Neeson has been cast in a new sci-fi action film called Cold Storage. Deadline confirms that he will be joined by Joe Keery of Stranger Things and Georgina Campbell of the recent release, Barbarian. The movie will be produced by Studiocanal and directed by Jonny Campbell, helming his second theatrical feature film.

Cold Storage takes place in a world where a microbiome that had threatened the planet was contained by scientists in an underground cooler. Decades later, as the property is sold off, the cooler begins to warm, allowing the microbiome to seep out and threaten the planet once again. It is up to an unlikely trio to contain the threat.

Jonny Campbell has directed many notable television episodes for well-known shows, such as the “Vincent” episode of Doctor Who. Other shows he has worked on include Dracula and Westworld. He has also directed a few TV movies, including Alien Autopsy and Eric & Ernie.

Joe Keery is best known as Steve Harrington on Stranger Things but is rapidly developing into a star in his own right due to his breakout performance on the Netflix show. He has appeared in the Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy as well as starred in the Hulu crime thriller Spree.

Aside from Barbarian, Georgiana Campbell is best known for the David Tennant series Broadchurch and the matchmaking Black Mirror episode “Hang the DJ.” Barbarian also stars Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long and is currently in theaters and on HBO Max. The success of this movie has put the actress at the forefront, opening the way for her to co-star alongside an actor of the caliber of Liam Neeson.

The Oscar-winning star of Schindler’s List has been acting since the late 1970s. Liam Neeson’s first major appearances were as Sir Gawain in Excalibur in 1982 alongside Helen Mirren and Sir Patrick Stewart, and in Peter Yates’ fantasy epic Krull, which co-starred the late Robbie Coltrane. Once his career took flight after Schindler’s List and the Scottish Braveheart rival Rob Roy, he began to take on more action-oriented roles, most notably in the Taken series and Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars universe.

More recently, Liam Neeson has been frequently poking fun at himself alongside Seth McFarlane on shows like Family Guy and The Orville. In addition, the busy actor was announced to be leading a reboot of the Naked Gun movies, so it’s not all serious for the Clash of the Titans star. He’s also appeared on the hit show Derry Girls and reprised his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in Tales of the Jedi on Disney+.

Cold Storage is adapted from the novel by screenwriter David Koepp, who will also be writing the script. Koepp is known for many adaptations of other properties, such as Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code prequel, Angels & Demons. With Liam Neeson in the lead and such a strong script and supporting cast, Cold Storage is likely to deliver thrills and (literal) chills to audiences upon its release.
