Henry Cavill Witcher Replacement Liam Hemsworth Finally Seen In Full Costume
It’s been nearly two years since Liam Hemsworth was announced as Henry Cavill’s replacement for The Witcher, and now we finally have our first good look at Hemsworth in costume. Leaked set photos show Hemsworth in Geralt of Rivia’s signature silver locks and an all-black outfit, the same as Cavill’s Geralt wore in previous seasons. The on-set photos show a fight scene on the beach, seemingly recreating the battle that Geralt and Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) had last season.
Hemsworth In A Scene Cavill Already Filmed?
It’s interesting that the first time we see Liam Hemsworth in his Witcher gear, it’s for a scene we’ve already seen. Perhaps the scene will need to be used for a flashback or it’ll be used to properly introduce us to Hemsworth’s Geralt and place him in the world. In either case, Hemsworth at least seems to look the part, but we’ll have to wait and see if he can fill Cavill’s boots.
Season 5 Will Be The End
Before Henry Cavill left the Netflix series, he had one last turn as Geralt in the third season. Liam Hemsworth is taking on the role for both the fourth and fifth seasons of The Witcher. It was also recently reported that season 5 will be the final season, so Liam has at least two seasons to make the character his own and make his imprint on the series.
Hemsworth Has Big Shoes To Fill
Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role of Geralt in The Witcher after Henry Cavill is certainly an unenviable position. The Netflix series has had middling reviews throughout its previous seasons, with Henry Cavill’s performance Geralt being one of the consistently great things about the series.
Changing up the best part of the show is something fans weren’t too happy about, so hopefully, the show has at least improved in other areas to give Hemsworth something to help him ease into the role and win over fans.
Freya Allan
Freya Allan, who plays Ciri and is also a consistently great part of the show, spoke about Liam Hemsworth stepping in for Henry Cavill in The Witcher and said, “I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart,” adding, “I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role. But I’m really excited to see what he does.”
Based on Allan’s comments, it definitely seems like Hemsworth is trying to make fans happy by throwing himself into the role.
We’ll See How Hemsworth Does
This worked for Henry Cavill, who was a huge fan of the Witcher video games and novels before being cast as Geralt. That fandom clearly showed through in his performance, and it’s a big reason fans were endeared to his character. It remains to be seen if Liam Hemsworth can bring that same energy to his seasons of The Witcher.
With that being said if the writing for the show hasn’t improved, then it’s going to be very unlikely that a new Geralt can win anyone over, no matter how good he is.
Netflix’s Witcher prequel series had horrible reviews and the animated film about Vesemir is the only universally praised Netflix-related Witcher project so far. We’ll find out if Liam Hemsworth was the right choice for The Witcher when Season 4 premieres.
