Leonardo DiCaprio has been acting for over 25 years, and has appeared in dozens of high-quality feature films during that time. Over the years, Leo has amassed so many landmark performances that audiences routinely argue about his greatest role, with online debates dating back decades suggesting that he’s been snubbed for a Best Actor Oscar in multiple movies. For my money, I’d have to say the best Leonardo DiCaprio performance ever committed to the big screen can be seen in the 2013 epic The Wolf of Wall Street.

The Wolf Of Wall Street

Leonardo DiCaprio

The Wolf of Wall Street was written by The Sopranos writer and Tulsa King former showrunner Terence Winter, based on the 2007 autobiography of the same name authored by Jordan Belfort.

Visionary filmmaker Martin Scorsese directed the three-hour-long Leonardo DiCaprio movie, which follows Belfort’s ascent from a lowly finance bro to a blood-thirsty billionaire, whose voracious quest for wealth and excess poisoned everything he touched. Today, the real life Wolf of Wall Street is still alive and well, and teaches prudent investment strategies with social media classes and tell-all books.

The Cast

Margot Robbie

A massive cast of Hollywood A-listers join Leonardo DiCaprio in the Wolf Of Wall Street‘s ensemble, including Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Kyle Chandler, Jon Bernthal, Jon Favreau, Cristin Milioti, and many others.

Many of these actors heavily improvised their dialogue and mannerisms on the set, providing an air of authenticity to the wacky characters that populate the upper echelon of the fast-paced finance world.

Jordan Belfort

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf Of Wall Street, which opens in 1987, during Belfort’s very first days as a Wall Street broker.

After joining the industry all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, he is quickly mentored by a senior partner at his firm who instills Belfort with the virtues of ripping off clients, taking drugs in the middle of the workday, and indulging in his most base impulses with no regard to the impact his actions have on others.

Just as it seems that Jordan will become the next major money-maker, the market nose-dives harder than it has in six decades, and the firm folds.

Everything Comes Crumbling Down

After taking his high-grade talents to the world of penny stocks, where brokers are able to receive up to a 50 percent commission, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character amasses a small fortune pushing pump-and-dump schemes, not unlike those seen in the crypto and NFT market today. Before long, Jordan is able to recruit a number of his friends to invest in their own firm, which grows to become incredibly successful.

As The Wolf of Wall Street builds to a thrilling conclusion, Jordan’s life becomes increasingly unmanageable as he indulges further and further in drug addiction and extramarital affairs, and refuses to tone his lifestyle down even as the FBI and SEC begin to investigate his shady dealings.

GFR SCORE

The Wolf Of Wall Street is a timeless classic that was beloved upon impact and remains incredibly popular today. While many fans agree that the film touts Leonardo DiCaprio’s finest performance, others make a salient argument that he shows out even harder in films such as Django Unchained, The Departed, or Inception. Those who haven’t yet had the chance to catch The Wolf Of Wall Street can stream the film for free on Pluto TV.
