Lena Headey is part of an ensemble cast that can call their movie the new #1 on the super streamer Netflix.
Gunpowder Milkshake is the new Netflix action-thriller original starring Karen Gillan as Sam, a young, trained assassin who must use her skills to help protect an 8-year-old girl. Lena Headey plays Sam’s mom. If you haven’t seen this new release, HEAVY SPOILERS FOLLOW.
When we first meet Sam, she is a 12-year-old sitting in a diner with her mother Scarlet (Lena Headey). Sam knows her mother’s business, an assassin, but her mother is there to tell her daughter that she must leave town because a job she was on went bad. Men show up to kill Scarlet, but she is too much for them and she kills them before leaving Sam.
Sam is now grown up, learning her trade from The Firm, the same group that taught her mother. She works for Nathan (Paul Giamatti) and gets her next assignment – kill a man whole stole money from The Firm and bring back the cash.
For her job, Sam needs new weapons, so she goes to the armory for an exchange. At the armory, she meets Anna May (Angela Bassett), Madeline (Carla Gugino), and Florence (Michelle Yeoh), three women who previously worked with Sam’s mother, Scarlet (Lena Headey).
On the job, Sam quickly finds her target but has second thoughts when she finds out that the man stole the money to save his kidnapped daughter. Still fearing for his life, the man lunges at Sam, causing her to shoot him in the abdomen. Instead of finishing him off, Sam instead takes him to a doctor to treat his wound. He begs Sam to take the money to exchange it for his daughter, Emily.
Meanwhile, Nathan receives some disturbing news. A man that Sam killed on an earlier job was the son of powerful crime boss Jim McAllister. In order to save himself and The Firm, Nathan gives up Sam to even things out.
When Sam returns to the doctor with Emily, they find out that he didn’t survive the bullet wound. Three of Nathan’s henchmen are also at the doctor’s receiving treatment when they get their orders to kill Sam. The doctor then injects Sam with a serum that causes her to lose control of her arms. She has Emily tape a gun and knife to her hands so she can fight off the three assailants.
Not knowing that Nathan is behind her new troubles, Sam receives a text from Nathan with his instructions to go to a safe house. When Sam and Emily arrive, Scarlet is there waiting. She tells her daughter that she’s been keeping an eye on her from afar all these years, making sure she’s doing fine.
When the henchmen arrive to kill Sam and Emily, Scarlet helps them escape and return to the armory, where a very unhappy reunion awaits Scarlet and her three former friends.
The hit on Sam still exists and when men arrive to finish the job, it’s up to Scarlet, Anna May, Madeline, and Florence to help Sam take care of business. Is there a happily-ever-after?
Lena Headey is no stranger to action. Of course, her claim to fame will always be as Cersei in the uber-popular Game of Thrones, but she has done much more than that.
In a career that dates back almost twenty years, Lena Headey has seen a number of action films, some of which include The Cave, The Brothers Grimm, 300, The Red Baron, Dredd, The Purge, and the sequel 300: Rise of an Empire.
On top of her popular role as Cersei, Lena Headey also took on the challenge of playing Sarah Connor in the TV series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Set in the aftermath of James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the series lasted two seasons and followed Sarah Connor and her son John (Thomas Dekker) as they fought the rise of the Terminators.
Lena Headey is not only known for her performances on the big screen, but she is also an accomplished voice actress as well. She has been heard in animated series like Uncle Grandpa, Danger Mouse, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Wizards, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Infinity Train, and the two new He-Man animated shows, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Masters of the Universe: Revelation as Evil-Lyn.
