British actor Lena Headey has commanded memorable roles for years, adding to the strength of pop culture in recent times. With lead performances in 300, Fighting with My Family, and playing the iconic role of Cersei Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, Headey has seen success with many of the performances she chooses to take on. She was set to appear in the upcoming addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4, Thor: Love and Thunder, but apparently her role was cut from the finished Taika Waititi-directed film. Now, if that wasn’t enough to kick the actor while she is down, she is also being sued for her work on the role.
According to a report by Variety, Lena Headey is embroiled in a lawsuit with her former agency out of the U.K., Troika. Troika claims that the actor owes the agency around $500,000, which makes up 7% of her fee, stemming from Thor: Love and Thunder earnings. Headey is being sued for a total of $1.5 million as the agency believes they are owed this sum from the actor’s failure to pay before her leaving the firm in 2020, which encompasses the total from the Marvel film and other projects. These other projects include 9 Bullets and a Showtime series that Headey was set to star in called Rita. Rita was going to be directed by Lisa Cholodenko and costarring The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson.
Lena Headey filmed scenes for Thor: Love and Thunder starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, but before the film releases in July 2022, all of her scenes have since been cut. It is not known at this time precisely what role Headey played in the movie before she was left on the cutting room floor. As reported by IndieWire, Headey’s former U.K. representatives aren’t concerned with whether or not she appeared on screen for the projects in question, as they feel they are owed for the work regardless. Headey has disputed all of the claims thrown her way and is defending herself by saying she never signed contracts with them, only her agent, Michael Duff.
Since 2020, the talent firm has rebranded to YMU Group from Troika, which has had to contend with many changes for the past two years. Variety reported on the rebranding at the time, which was a move that saw the departure of top executives at the company, as well as some of their top talent. In addition to Lena Headey, Troika’s cofounders Conor McCaughan and Michael Duff once represented a variety of British actors, including Belfast’s Jamie Dornan, X-Men: Days of Future Past performer Michael Fassbender, The Affair star Ruth Wilson, I May Destroy You creator Michaela Coel, Ted Lasso’s Juno Temple, and The Crown’s Matt Smith. Headey chose to follow Michael Duff in 2020, her long-time agent, for years before her work on Game of Thrones. Headey is firm in her belief that she owes nothing to YMU and that they only represented her European interests for her career.
