Legendary Horror Director Returns With New Movie
Writer, director, and producer Sam Raimi can send help to a beleaguered movie industry with his latest horror film project, Send Help. The man who gave the world the Evil Dead horror film franchise is legendary for doing things his way, which means complete creative control and absolute originality. 20th Century Studios has tasked Sam Raimi with making Send Help, although the studio hasn’t given him the complete go-ahead yet.
Sam Raimi’s Golden Touch
Raimi Productions would be the official production company creating a film Deadline describes as a horror-filled blend of Misery and Castaway in an island setting. Zainab Azizi will team up with Sam Raimi as the co-producer of Send Help. Raimi is known for delivering a lot of bang for the production buck when creating his many past films. Last year’s Evil Dead Rise, which took in more than $147 million in global box office receipts against a production budget of about $17 million, is a perfect example.
Raimi’s Rabid Fanbase
When you can turn $17 million or so into more than $147 million at the box office, film fans and production companies are equally happy with the result. That’s what makes Sam Raimi the magic man and Send Help his next trick if 20th Century Studios follows through on the proposed project.
Raimi is well-known for creating films that don’t cost a lot in Hollywood dollars but really deliver at the box office. He also has a devoted fanbase that will turn out to see just about any film he makes, and for good reason. Raimi knows how to entertain filmgoers.
The Success Of Doctor Strange
Would Sam Raimi’s Send Help also star longtime Raimi collaborator Bruce Campbell? One could only hope at this point as the two have a firmly established kismet that consistently results in winning films. In addition to Evid Dead Rise, Raimi is coming off the success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which produced $955 million in global box office receipts in 2022.
That opens the possibility of in-demand actor Benedict Cumberbatch possibly playing a role in the proposed film project. Fans would go bananas if Campbell and Cumberbatch played opposite each other in a Raimi-helmed island-centric horror film.
More Movies In The Works
With more than $1 billion in global box office receipts from his last two films with ample profits left over from each production, it’s safe to say the sky’s the limit for a Sam Raimi-led Send Help horror film. Raimi also has a couple of horror-thriller films that he produced that are currently pending streaming release. Netflix is slated to debut Don’t Move later this year, while Locked, with actors Bill Skarsgard and the always excellent Anthony Hopkins playing opposite each other, is in its post-production phase.
Working With The Writers Of A Campy Horror Classic
Mark Swift of Baywatch film fame and Damian Shannon collaborated on the Send Help script. The writing duo have a history of success when working together. They wrote the script for the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th. They also penned Freddy vs. Jason in 2003. They know how to write successful horror films, and legendary horror film creator and director Sam Raimi knows how to turn them into box office gold.
