Half the universe returned from the Thanos snap, but some memories may still be lost. At least that is the case for The Matrix’s Laurence Fishburne, who, in an interview with the Phase Zero podcast, seemed to forget that he ever starred in a Marvel movie. While proclaiming his love of the MCU, the Ant-Man and the Wasp actor said, “[A]s much as I would love to be in it, I’m happy being a fan and waiting for whatever’s coming.”

Of course, Fishburne was in the MCU as Dr. Bill Foster, an old rival of Hank Pym. The actor, along with much of the supporting cast of the first two Ant-Man films, did not return for the recent third installment, Quantumania. While Laurence Fishburne at first appears to have forgotten his Marvel appearance, his comment may have meant he would love to continue to be involved.

The awkward phrasing is cause for confusion, but this is not the first time Laurence Fishburne has claimed to be a Marvel guy. The actor previously voiced the Silver Surfer in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and currently voices the Beyonder in Disney’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

All that, topped with his role of Daily Planet editor Perry White in the DCU’s Superman films, wasn’t enough comic book action for the actor. Fandom led Laurence Fishburne to approach Marvel for an MCU role, and he eventually landed his spot as Dr. Foster. And with the big plans Marvel has laid out, there is plenty of room for Fishburne to come back.

Bill Foster takes on a superhero persona in comics called Goliath. The character has a rich history, interacting with Luke Cage, Spider-Man, and the Avengers. Seeing Laurence Fishburne return to Marvel to fight alongside the Avengers in The Kang Dynasty or to assist street-level heroes like Spider-Man or Daredevil could be a delight for fans, and perhaps even more for Fishburne himself.

For now, Laurence Fishburne is content to watch Marvel movies with the rest of the world. He got particularly excited when he mentioned the next Captain America film, which will feature Anthony Mackie in the title role for the first time on the big screen. In addition to watching Marvel movies, Fishburne has a full plate ahead of him.

The Black-ish star made his possible memory slip while doing press for John Wick: Chapter 4, which releases this March. The film reunites Fishburne once again with Keanu Reeves as assassin outsiders looking to overthrow the oppressive High Table. Beyond that, Laurence Fishburne will have to navigate a heavy schedule to make a return to Marvel.

He is currently at work on The Sterling Affairs, a TV miniseries following Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers whose reputation was destroyed by recordings of his racist remarks. Fishburne is also shooting a thriller called The Cellar Door and is set to appear in Francis Ford Coppola’s star-studded epic, Megalopolis.
