Lady Gaga revealed that she was set to release the supposed theme song for the new Tom Cruise Top Gun: Maverick sequel. That has officially happened, and the new track seems to be a power ballad of sorts, that may not invoke the same kind of high-octane action that “Danger Zone” certainly did. However, it’s still quite catchy. You can hear her new Top Gun ballad, “Hold My Hand” below:
Lady Gaga is certainly a wonderful performer, and that was proven by the fact that Tom Cruise showed up to her concert as well. Tom Cruise showing up at a concert must be a big deal for any artist. Not that Lady Gaga is some run-of-the-mill artist, as she has been a world-renowned singer for quite some time now. She has also transitioned well into the acting market, with her most recent performance in House of Gucci being lauded by many people. However, she still got to have the man himself attend her concert. Considering that her new song was likely written for Maverick, the character for which he is most known. Top Gun: Maverick aims to pick up where the last film left off. The trailers alone have shown the movie to not miss a beat in comparison to its predecessor. Tom Cruise returns as Maverick, who must now teach an academy of new pilots the way to truly feed their need for speed. An exciting detail is that Val Kilmer is meant to return as Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Only now he has been heavily promoted to admiral. He was shown briefly during the second trailer. It was only a picture on the wall, but it’s great to see the man back in a film. Maverick, however, must train these new hotshot pilots, which include Goose’s son, Bradley Bradshaw, who is portrayed by Miles Teller. Lady Gaga now has the honor of setting the mood for the sequel film, albeit with a more hopeful designation in the song’s tone.
Lady Gaga explained her love for this new ballad on her Instagram page. She credits the song as this layered song that involves the heart of the new film, her own psyche, and the nature of the world we are currently living in. Apparently, the song is meant to be hopeful to everyone in the world, and not just those make-believe pilots in Top Gun: Maverick. She also thanked Tom Cruise in her post for help on the creation, so maybe the actor was allowed to have some input to this new ballad.
Top Gun: Maverick is set to debut on May 27th, and fans will get to see Tom Cruise return to one of his most iconic roles from the 1980s. Also, we might also all get to see the involvement that Val Kilmer will have. Also, maybe Lady Gaga might sneak in a cameo. She is a fantastic actress, so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that she appears in the film in some facet.
