Through all the announcements happening at San Diego Comic-Con taking place, one might have fallen through the cracks a bit. The world of Kaiju has exploded with popularity recently, especially with the success of Godzilla vs. Kong. It has officially been announced that a Godzilla series was being worked on for AppleTV. It has also been announced that Kurt Russell would be starring alongside his son, Wyatt. We had reported this scoop through our trusted and proven sources back in April, and now Deadline has confirmed this report. This new series is titled, Godzilla and the Titans.

Landing both Kurt Russell and Wyatt is huge, and they join a huge universe that has already seen great actors like Bryan Cranston, John C. Reilly, Ken Watanabe, Millie Bobby Brown, and Alexander Skarsgard. Godzilla and the Titans is part of Legendary’s Monsterverse starting with the reboot of Godzilla in 2014. The story was expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the anime series Skull Island. The Russells are now joining established cast members, Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

Godzilla and the Titans follows the aftermath of the battles that took place between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and brought the realization that monsters exist in the world. The series will revolve around a family who is dedicated to finding the secrets of the organization that has let these monsters free. That organization is the infamous Monarch, which has been present in the Monsterverse that has been created. The assumption is that Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt are the family that is going to attempt to uncover these secrets that have linked them to Monarch. WandaVision director, Matthew Shakman, will be directing the first two episodes of the series.

Godzilla and the Titans is said to be the series that is going to give the MonsterVerse more substance. The series is meant to serve as the aftermath of the events of the 2014 Godzilla film. That means there could be less monster action and more about the human component. That was one of the biggest gripes from fans when it came to the plot of the 2014 film. However, we are fine with the series tackling the human element more so that the monsters can do their thing in Godzilla vs. Kong 2. Though it was rumored that Godzilla was not initially going to be in the film due to rights issues, it was recently confirmed a new deal had been struck. Adam Wingard is being brought back and he explained that the monsters would play a larger part, more than they were in the first battle royale film. We are just hoping Kurt Russell doesn’t die in his first role since the 1970s.

Whatever happens, we are more than excited for Kurt Russell and his son to be added to this growing MonsterVerse. Godzilla films have been getting better these past five years, and we want more giant monster fights. Godzilla might be taking on Kong and his child next time around. We are excited to see how this new series ties into everything as well.
