Knives Out Fans Already Solve Netflix Mystery Before It Even Comes Out?
Fans may have solved the mystery of Wake Up Dead Man, the third installment in the Knives Out franchise, which is set for a Netflix release in 2025. After Jeremy Renner was announced as part of the cast, an X user known for Marvel scoops said the actor is the killer. While the theory may seem random, other Marvel stars like Chris Evans and Edward Norton played villains in previous Knives Out films.
Jeremy Renner
Some even predicted a Marvel actor would be the killer days before Renner’s casting. “Waiting to hear which actor who headlined an MCU movie is in Knives Out 3 so I know who the killer is,” one X user wrote. Others believe that Renner could be the victim since his face (as himself) appeared on a bottle of hot sauce in 2022’s Glass Onion.
Benoit Blanc Is Back
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is written and directed by Rian Johnson. The film will feature Daniel Craig reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc. The plot details are still under wraps, but the movie promises to follow the same standalone mystery format that made its predecessor so successful.
The Cast
Along with Craig, the cast of Knives Out 3 includes Daryl McCormack, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Jeremy Renner, Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, and Mila Kunis.
There are also rumors that Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan might have roles in the highly anticipated Netflix film, but these have yet to be confirmed.
Renner’s casting coincides with the return of his hit series, Mayor of Kingstown. The third season of the Paramount+ show premiered on June 2.
Renner started work on the new season in early 2024, a year after a harrowing snowplowing incident that nearly claimed his life. Despite his eagerness to return to the set, Renner previously admitted that he found the experience challenging once production began.
Knives Out
Released in 2019, the first Knives Out film chronicles the investigation of the death of mystery novel author Harlan Thrombey. The police initially rule the death a suicide, but the famous detective Benoit Blanc is hired by Harlan’s family to investigate further.
As Blanc goes deeper into the case, he uncovers motives and secrets among the family members, ultimately revealing a surprising killer.
The film featured an ensemble cast of established stars, including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, and Michael Shannon.
Knives Out was a critical and financial success, earning over $312.9 million worldwide on a budget of $40 million. The film even received an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay.
Glass Onion
The second film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, was released in 2022. The story takes place on a private island where a group of friends, including Miles Bron (Edward Norton), gather for a weekend retreat.
When one of the guests is found dead, the group is trapped on the island, and Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) must unravel the mystery behind the murder.
Along with Norton and Craig, Glass Onion features Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, and Jessica Henwick.
Cameos include Ethan Hawke, Jackie Hoffman, Hugh Grant, Stephen Sondheim, Natasha Lyonne, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Angela Lansbury, Yo-Yo Ma, Serena Williams, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
