Kit Harington Is Doing A Horror Movie Because Of Game Of Thrones
While few things could be scarier than the last season of Game of Thrones, fans of that show may be excited to learn that Kit Harington will be starring in a horror movie. At first glance, that may seem like an odd choice for an actor best known for other genres, including fantasy TV shows and superhero films. But he made that choice for a surprisingly sweet reason: because his former onscreen sister Sophie Turner personally asked him to join her for the film The Dreadful.
Sophie Turner Asked Kit Harrington To Join Her In The Dreadful
To hear her tell the story, Turner wasted no time recommending Kit Harington for the role. “They were trying to find someone for that role,” she said, “and I was like, ‘You can’t not have Kit.’” Seeing the two of them together again will be a real treat for Game of Thrones fans, and it sounds like some scenes in The Dreadful may look a bit familiar to fans of the HBO series or the fantasy genre in particular.
“It’s set around the time of the Wars of the Roses,” Sophie Turner said. What does that mean for she and costar Kit Harington? “We’ll probably be floating about in robes on clifftops again.”
Jon Snow Spinoff Shelved
Only time will tell if The Dreadful ends up being a hit, but if so, that could give Kit Harington’s career a much-needed boost. Once upon a time, he was slated to headline his own solo Jon Snow show, one which would (like the very successful House of the Dragon) be another spinoff of Game of Thrones. But the star explained earlier this year that his solo show had been canceled due to an inability to come up with a compelling story, which is good news for George R.R. Martin fans but bad news for Harington’s career.
Brief Time In The MCU
Jon Snow is by far Kit Harington’s most famous character, and reprising that role would have given the talented performer some much-needed visibility. Outside of the Game of Thrones universe, he is arguably most famous for his brief performance in Eternals. That appearance was meant to set up meatier roles down the line, but the failure of Eternals has left Harington’s Marvel future deeply uncertain.
The Dreadful
Aside from its War of Roses setting and the presence of Game of Thrones colleague Sophie Turner, what do we know about Kit Harington’s latest film? According to a Deadline synopsis, Turner plays a woman named Anne who, along with her mother-in-law, “live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society.” As for Harington, he plays a very mysterious man from their shared past, one who “will set off a sequence of events that become a turning point for Anne.”
From A V/H/S Contributor
The Dreadful is directed by Natasha Kermani, someone horror buffs should appreciate: after all, she had one of the more entertaining segments (TKNOGD) in the recent Sudder exclusive V/H/S/85, the latest in this venerable found footage franchise.
We don’t know much else, but let’s be real: a surehanded horror director and a cinematic reunion of Kit Harington and Sophie Turner are guaranteed to make this worth the price of admission. And if anyone tells you otherwise, you can shut them down the same way that the Night’s Watch always shut down Jon Snow: “you know nothing.”
