Spider-Man: No Way Home featured tons of characters from Spider-Man movies across the years, but not every character made an appearance. One of these characters was Kirsten Dunce’s Mary Jane Watson, but it wasn’t because Dunst turned down the role. In a recent interview, she revealed she would have reprised the role if someone had reached out and asked her.

There’s No Arguing With Kirsten Dunst’s Reasoning

While it’s disappointing that we didn’t get to see what Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane is up to or get to see her interact with Zendaya’s version of the character, Dunst is still open to doing more superhero films in the future. She was hilarious about her reasoning too saying, “you get paid a lot of money.” In any case, it seems like she would definitely be on board if Sam Raimi ends up making his long-awaited Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire.

Spider-Man 4

Rumors have been swirling about Spider-Man 4 after the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Raimi’s recent comments about the film have only fueled that fire. In an interview with CBR, Raimi spoke about the potential film saying, “I’m not actually working on it yet.” Of course, fans have latched on to the “yet” part of that statement and are hopeful we could see Raimi bring back Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst for one more Spider-Man film.

The Wildly Successful Original Trilogy

Although Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and Kirsten Dunst were able to make three highly successful Spider-Man movies together, the third and final film of the trilogy ended up being a bit of a disappointment. This was due in part to some studio meddling that pushed Raimi to include Venom, despite the director not being particularly interested in the character. It would be cool to see Raimi get to make one more Spider-Man film the way he wants.

Civil War

As great as it would be to see Kirsten Dunst return to the world of Spider-Man, fans can at least look forward to seeing her in the new A24 movie Civil War later this month. The film tells the story of a war journalist (Dunst) and her team making their way across a fragmented and war-torn United States to get an interview with the current President. The film is A24’s most expensive production yet and also stars Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman.

Civil War is Kirsten Dunst’s first movie in a few years after her Oscar-nominated performance in 2021’s The Power of the Dog. So although she hasn’t taken on too many roles in recent years, she clearly knows how to pick good projects. Still, it would definitely be cool to see her make an appearance in a Spider-Man film or Marvel film in the near future.

Still A Way For Dunst To Return

Perhaps if Sam Raimi ends up directing Avengers: Secret Wars like the rumors are saying, we could see Kirsten Dunst make an appearance as Mary Jane in that movie. Of course, we would all be fine if they just green light Spider-Man 4 instead. In any case, you can see Dunst’s next role in Civil War, which comes out on April 12.
