Kim Kardashian is joining American Horror Story Season 12.
As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, there’s a new scream queen in town. Kim Kardashian will join the twelfth season of American Horror Story alongside Emma Roberts, announced by Kardashian herself with an eerie post on Instagram ahead of the report. Subtitled Delicate, the new season is based in part on author Danielle Valentine’s upcoming book Delicate Condition.
Author Andrea Bartz called the story “the feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby we all needed.” Set to release in August, the book is said to be a thriller about a woman who comes to believe that a malevolent force is sabotaging her attempts at pregnancy. How closely American Horror Story will stick to the events of the book is still unknown.
This is not the first time Kim Kardashian has entered the world of acting, but it is her most substantial effort to date. The casting may seem to be a publicity stunt, but American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has high expectations for Kardashian. Murphy noted Kardashian’s lauded performance hosting Saturday Night Live, after which he began discussing a role for the budding actress.
Delicate will mark several firsts for the long-running show. Not only will it serve as a scripted TV debut for Kim Kardashian, but the season will also draw from source material in a way no other season of American Horror Story has. It will also be the show’s first season written by a single writer, Halley Feiffer.
“Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish, and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done,” Murphy said. American Horror Story has a history of stunt-like antics, most notably, the show cast Lady Gaga for its fifth season, attracting controversy and intrigue. The season launched Gaga into acting success, and Kim Kardashian is likely crossing her fingers for a similar result.
In addition to American Horror Story, Kim Kardashian has plenty of other projects on her plate. By this point, she has beaten the criticism that she is famous for being famous. Kardashian is an entrepreneur, actress, podcast host, and producer. Her reality show, The Kardashians, is still alive at Hulu, an entity of Disney.
Kim Kardashian may be new to American Horror Story, but she will be working with a veteran in Emma Roberts. Roberts has starred in several seasons of the show, starting in 2013’s Coven and following with Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse, and 1984. Delicate will be Roberts’ first outing for the series in four years.
Emma Roberts is also set to join Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson, and Adam Scott in Sony’s Madame Web. Set in the Spider-Man universe, the film follows Madame Web, a psychic with mysterious insight into the life of Spider-Man. Details about the film’s plot are being kept under wraps.
The news that Kim Kardashian will join American Horror Story is quite a bombshell for the series. Ryan Murphy has a strong TV track record, and his long-running horror anthology has boasted unexpected casting wins before. There is no doubt that Kim Kardashian will have audiences running scared, but whether or not that is a good thing remains to be seen.
