Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key first made their names in Hollywood and with the masses from their popular (and hilarious) sketch comedy show Key & Peele. Based on the viral nature of some of their bits and the overwhelming talent, it looked like they would be in the comedy game for years to come. And while they are entrenched in that world, Peele has simultaneously become one of the great horror directors and writers out there as well, pivoting into a new genre of which he’s become something of a master. Well, now the two are combining their efforts once again, this time in the scarier realm though it’s a movie that dials it back some and is more for a younger crowd. We got out first look at Wendell & Wild and it looks like a great intersection for Key & Peele in a movie that could really take off this Halloween.

You can see Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key voice the titular characters in the first trailer for Wendell & Wild below.

This movie looks rather unlike other animated films we’ve seen lately and could really find an audience based on the style and the additions of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key in the lead roles. It looks stylish and slick in all the right places while offering a sense of laid-back coolness which contrasts the darker and scarier vibe at the heart of the film.

In Wendell & Wild, Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key play two demon brothers who are trying to make their way into the living world but will need some “help” to actually get there. Key & Peele see that coming in the form of Kat Eliott (voiced by Lyric Ross), a 13-year-old girl who is dealing with her own issues. But she more than seems up to the task and likely has all of the wherewithal and confidence to deal with these dudes and more. It looks like she will be having to face nightmarish scenarios on a number of different fronts throughout the movie if the visuals here are any indication.

And if the visuals and style for this Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele movie look familiar, that’s for a reason. For starters, Wendell & Wild is directed by Henry Selick who’s directed other movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and James and the Giant Peach. He uses stop motion techniques in his film and that’s the case in this latest one as well. Plus, Peele and Selick wrote the movie together which should add to the tension. Considering Peele has put out movies like Get Out, Us, Candyman, and Nope, we already know he’s at the top of the game in this respect.

Fans of Key & Peele will get to see Wendell & Wild in theaters starting on October 21st but that will only be in a limited fashion. Most will have to stream it on Netflix starting October 28th. It very much looks like the perfect compliment to that holiday season.
