Star Trek: Discovery Actor Sues Kevin Spacey For Sexual Assault
A Star Trek: Discovery actor is suing Kevin Spacey for an alleged assault in the 1980s.
Kevin Spacey is being sued by Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp for an alleged sexual assault that took place in the 1980s when Rapp was an underage boy.
Kevin Spacey came under fire for accusations of sexual assault back in 2017 when Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp accused the prominent actor of making unwanted sexual advances at a party in 1986. Rapp was 14 years old at the time and Spacey was 26. The accusation opened the floodgates and at least fifteen other accusers stepped up and alleged similar incidents of improper behavior from the Oscar-winning thespian.
Since those accusations by the Star Trek actor, Kevin Spacey’s career and public persona have tanked, effectively ending his tenure in the professional acting world. According to the official complaint that was filed Wednesday in New York state court, Anthony Rapp is suing Spacey for “psychological injuries, including but not limited to, severe emotional distress, humiliation, fright, anger, depression and anxiety; a severe shock to his nervous system; and has been caused to suffer mental anguish, emotional and psychological damage as a result thereof, and, upon information and belief, some or all of these injuries are of a permanent and lasting nature.” You can read the full complaint here.
The suit against Kevin Spacey also includes another anonymous accuser who is simply being listed as “C.D.” It is unclear who this other accuser is or if they have spoken up about Spacey’s alleged behavior in the past. Anthony Rapp actually shared his allegations with The Advocate back in 2001 but Spacey’s name was removed from the story in order to avoid any potential legal ramifications.
Back in July 2019, Massachusetts prosecutors were forced to drop another case against Kevin Spacey where the actor was accused of getting an 18-year-old intoxicated at a bar in 2016 and assaulting him. Also in 2019, another lawsuit between Spacey and an anonymous massage therapist was dismissed after the accuser passed away. A settlement had been secured in that case.
Since these accusations gained steam, Kevin Spacey has mostly retreated from public life. However, Spacey posted two videos to his YouTube account where he spoke directly to the camera while performing his Frank Underwood character from the hit Netflix series House of Cards. Spacey was removed from the cast and his role as executive producer for the show’s final season. He was also completely removed from the feature film All the Money in the World and replaced by celebrated actor Christopher Plummer.
As of this writing, Kevin Spacey is still listed as being under investigation by both the Los Angeles County District Attorney and law enforcement authorities in the United Kingdom for sexual misconduct claims. In 2018, Scotland Yard revealed three allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey that they would be investigating.
With this new lawsuit from Star Trek’s Anthony Rapp filed, it is unclear how quickly the case against Kevin Spacey will progress. Rapp and the other anonymous accuser are seeking an unknown amount in regard to compensation for the alleged damages they incurred due to Spacey’s purported inappropriate behavior. any significant updates will be reported here at Giant Freakin Robot.
