Kevin Costner Horizon Reveals Western Epic In New Look
Kevin Costner’s epic Western project Horizon: An American Saga is getting ever closer, and now we’ve got some new images of the film thanks to Entertainment Weekly. Based on these images, there’s going to be some beautiful landscapes, plenty of horses, and Costner with a big Tom Selleck-like ‘stache. If nothing else, the cinematography for this film should be absolutely stunning.
Horizon Is A Passion Project
Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is a massive project for the multi-hyphenate actor, as he is directing, writing, producing, and starring in the four-part saga. These are all hats that Costner has worn before, but it’s still a huge undertaking. It’s safe to say that this is definitely one of the most ambitious projects of his career.
An Amazing Ensemble Cast
Of course, Kevin Costner has put together a stacked cast for Horizon: An American Saga that includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, Jamie Campbell Bower and Thomas Haden Church. The new images give us some glimpses of these characters, though we don’t get too close of a look at anyone other than Costner. The photos also don’t reveal much in the way of plot, but the guns and speeding wagon promise that there should be some good ol’ fashioned Western shootouts in the film.
A 4-Part Historical Epic
What we do know about Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is that it takes place during the American Civil War and the expansion into the American West. The saga also takes place over the span of a decade, so it’s going to be quite the historical epic. Costner also gave some insight into his character, Hayes Ellison, saying, “He’s just a man on a landscape, with all the possessions that he owns existing, on a horse.”
Moving On From Yellowstone
Kevin Costner has proven that he’s right at home in Westerns, and it looks like Horizon: An American Saga won’t be breaking that trend. While fans of his expansive modern Western Yellowstone were certainly disappointed that Costner was moving on to different pastures, it’ll be interesting to see what Costner can do when he has creative control over almost every aspect of the film. Those looking forward to Horizon don’t have much longer to wait either, as the first two films of the planned four-film saga will come out this year.
First Two Parts Arriving This Year
Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga will premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off next week. While Chapter 1 of the saga isn’t scheduled to be released until June 28, we’ll definitely be hearing some early reviews after its Cannes showing later this month. As for Chapter 2, we’ll have to wait until August 16 for that to hit theaters.
Chapters 3 and 4 are both expected to begin production later this summer in southern Utah. Previous reports indicate that Kevin Costner wants to shoot the final two Horizon films back to back. For now, we can look forward to checking out Chapter 1 when it hits theaters on June 28.
