Kevin Costner Overcome With Tears At Horizon Debut
We’re just one week into the Cannes Film Festival and audiences have already taken in the sights and sounds of Francis Ford Coppola’s return to directing in Megalopolis and George Miller’s prequel film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. But one title, in particular, moved its helmer to tears as Kevin Costner’s Horizon received a seven-minute standing ovation during its premiere at the festival on Sunday.
As applause, cheers, and chants of his name filled the auditorium, Costner couldn’t help but let the tears flow and be humbled by the experience.
Plenty More To Come
Kevin Costner took the stage to deliver a speech about his latest Western epic. He thanked his peers and even strangers in the audience, promising that there was plenty more of the story to come.
The first part of Kevin Costner’s Horizon franchise is set to giddy up into cinemas in June with the second part galloping in just two months later in August. From there, it’s not crystal clear when the rest of the film series will play out but Costner said “three more” installments were on the way.
Kevin Costner’s Horizon
Directly in line with previous projects like Dances with Wolves, Kevin Costner’s latest directorial project, Horizon, turns the clocks back on the United States and focuses on the tale of the West’s expansion.
It was a bloody and brutal time in the nation’s history as those who settled in the Eastern part of the country were now ready to lay their claim to land out West, with the nation getting more and more crowded by the second. Of course, there were those indigenous people who were already here long before the colonizers who had their land and lives threatened – given no choice but to fight back.
Kevin Costner Wrote, Directs, And Stars
Kevin Costner will star as the leading character in Horizon and does so alongside an impressively stacked ensemble that also includes Sienna Miller (Anatomy of a Scandal), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Sam Worthington (the Avatar film series), Danny Huston (American Horror Story: Coven), Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games franchise), Giovanni Ribisi (The Offer), and more.
Costner also co-wrote the movie, served as a producer, and was one of the project’s biggest financial donors as he mortgaged his ranch to see his dream come to the big screen.
Reason He Left Yellowstone?
Fans of Taylor Sheridan’s beloved modern-day Western series, Yellowstone, may have something else come to mind when they hear Kevin Costner and Horizon in the same sentence as the film production was rumored to be the reason behind Costner’s departure from the show.
Yellowstone Ending
We may never receive a straight answer about the ins and outs of why Yellowstone is calling it quits following the back half of episodes for its fifth season, but it certainly sounds like there’s at least a little bit of bad blood between Costner and Sheridan.
Just Around The Corner
Luckily, those who can’t get enough of the world of the Dutton family will continue to learn more of their lore and the stories of others in the universe as the Yellowstone franchise only continues to grow.
With the arrival date for the first installment in Keven Costner’s Horizon epic just around the corner, we can expect to see plenty of trailers and other promotional material roll out over the next month.
