Kevin Costner Building His Own Movie Studio
Kevin Costner is an actor, writer, director, producer, and now movie studio owner. Or at least, he will be in the future when he completes construction on his new film studio in St. George, Utah. The facility will be named Territory Film Studios and located outside of Zion National Park.
A Massive Facility In Utah
The news of Kevin Costner’s studio was revealed when St. George’s mayor, Michele Randall, announced the plans during a State of the City address. The studio should be able to break ground in spring or summer, depending on the permits. The Salt Lake Tribune also revealed that Costner’s Territory Film Studios would include 152,750 square feet of studio space along with a Costner-themed restaurant that offers catering services.
Trouble Finding Locations For His Own Movie
It’s not too surprising that Kevin Costner is building his film studio, considering he is making a lot of his own films lately. Costner filmed both parts of his upcoming two-part film Horizon: An American Saga in Utah. Costner has trouble finding warehouses to shoot scenes of the movie in, so he seemingly is taking it upon himself to create that studio space.
A Gorgeous Location For Westerns
This film studio should help with Kevin Costner’s future plans because he is reportedly going to film the third and fourth films of his Horizon series in St. George, Utah, as well. It’s hard to blame him, as Zion National Park and that area of Utah is incredibly beautiful. It also undoubtedly makes for beautiful cinematography for a Western epic like Horizon: An American Saga.
Costner’s Next Movie
Horizon: An American Saga is a two-part epic that is co-written, produced, directed by, and starring Kevin Costner. The film depicts pre and post-Civil War America during the era of Western Expansion. Along with Costner, the films feature an impressive cast that includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
A Personal Project
Horizon: An American Saga is a long-time passion project for Kevin Costner, as he approached Walt Disney Pictures with the film way back in 2003. However, the project’s origin goes even further, as Costner first commissioned it as a solo film in 1988. This film has been coming for a long time, so it’s no surprise that Costner wants to be involved in every creative aspect of the series.
Horizon Comes To Theaters This Year
We won’t have to wait too long to see if Kevin Costner can pull off this decades-in-the-making dream project, as both parts of the film are set to release this summer. Chapter 1 of Horizon: An American Saga will be released in theaters on June 28, and Chapter 2 will be released six weeks later on August 16. Costner planned on shooting all four chapters of his film series back-to-back, but the third and fourth chapters were delayed after the strikes this summer.
Big Plans For The Future
Maybe Kevin Costner will hold off on filming the third and fourth chapters until he has his new film studio. Alternatively, he might be waiting to see how the first two films perform before getting started on new ones. In any case, we’ll get to find out if Horizon: An American Saga was worth the wait this summer.
