Keanu Reeves Only Wants To Play One X-Men Character
Keanu Reeves came out and said that he has always wanted to play Wolverine in the X-Men.
A recent Deadline article dives into the world of one of our favorite excellent dudes, Keanu Reeves, and highlights some important questions from the Matrix star’s AMA on Reddit a few days ago. While the questions ranged from how dark he likes his toast, to what kind of music he’s currently listening to, the most important question asked was if there was ever a role he regretted turning down. Reeves simply answered, “no…but I did always want to play Wolverine.”
If there’s one thing we love about Keanu Reeves, is that he’s incredibly humble, down to earth, and an overall nice guy. Even if the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure star did regret turning down a role at some point in his career, the regret probably wouldn’t outweigh how happy he would feel for the actor that got the part instead of him. That’s because Reeves has a heart of gold- it’s just too bad that up to this point, the MCU hasn’t made him an offer that would turn his heart into adamantium.
While Keanu Reeves has not crossed over into the MCU, he is currently hard at work with DC on a long-awaited follow up to 2005’s Constantine. Though Reeves confirmed that the film is currently in the works, he did not elaborate on when production will wrap, or when the film will be released. This is great news, considering that the Hellblazer adaptation was rumored to be scrapped in the midst of the DC Studios restructuring spearheaded by James Gunn.
The unfortunate truth is that we won’t see Keanu Reeves playing Wolverine, as Hugh Jackman will be reprising the role Deadpool 3. But for those of you who are looking for John Constantine to do what he does best, and send half-demons back to hell with his cynical countenance and mystical powers, you’re in luck. If the Constantine sequel is anything like 2005’s film, it will surely be anything but a bogus journey.
Keanu Reeve’s career hit amazing heights when he starred in The Matrix, and he has not lost momentum since. The John Wick franchise is still going strong after its fourth installment, which is considered by many to be one of the greatest action films in recent memory. Outside of acting, Reeves is an active philanthropist and even has his own private foundation that aids children’s hospitals and funds cancer research. He also plays a mean bass guitar.
Though it’s safe to say that Keanu Reeves is happy with the roles he has chosen, one could only wonder what it would be like if an actor of his caliber had an opportunity to take on the role of Wolverine. Though not ever formally trained as a martial artist, Reeves knows a thing or two about cinematic fight choreography, and we hear that John Wick once even killed three men in a bar with nothing but a pencil.
It’s fun to imagine a world where Reeves has an opportunity to take this kind of energy into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine, but for now, let’s be patient and see how he will continue to win us over with his portrayal of John Constantine.
