Keanu Reeves And Winona Ryder Are The Best Non-Married Married Couple And They Know It

These days, the idea that Keanu Reeves might have gotten secretly married would certainly disappoint fans all over the world who would love to tie the knot with the John Wick star. However, it turns out that this Hollywood icon might already be married to another major star and celebrating his 32nd wedding anniversary. Francis Ford Coppola used real priests for the wedding scene between Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the two now consider themselves married and call each other husband and wife in adorable texts to each other.

Married By A Real Romanian Priest In Dracula

While it largely flew under the radar, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder revealed their kinda-sorta marriage way back in 2018 during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. That was when the two were doing a press tour for their romantic comedy movie Destination Wedding, and this led to them reminiscing about their time playing husband and wife together in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. In that film, they married and became Jonathan and Mina Harker, though as they revealed during the press tour, they think that Coppola’s strict attention to detail might mean they are legally married in real life.

At first, Keanu Reeves didn’t remember that day as clearly as Winona Ryder, but he eventually joined in her belief that the two got hitched on set. According to her, Coppola “used a real Romanian priest” for their onscreen marriage, “So, I think we’re married.” As for Reeves, he summed things up by saying, “Winona says we are, Coppola says we are, so I guess we’re married under the eyes of God.”

Not Really Married, But They Commit To The Bit

Now, it’s possible that both actors are just being very cheeky, but if Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are married, they don’t act like it. For example, they don’t live together, and we never get an influx of paparazzi photos of the two of them hanging out. By all accounts, they mostly see each other when they have a new joint project they are working on.

John Wick Crossover Is Highly Unlikely

With that being said, the two regularly text each other, and their maybe marriage features heavily in their communication, something Ryder revealed during an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. For example, Keanu Reeves will get birthday greetings from Winona Ryder like “happy birthday, my husband.” In turn, he responds with messages like “Hey, my wife, I love you” followed by his initials and his age, such as “KR57.”

While the texts are insanely cute, it sounds like she would like to get more face time with Reeves, particularly in another movie. “I would literally do anything though with him,” Ryder said, declaring that Reeves “is so special.” This led to her clarification that you won’t see her appear in a John Wick movie because each one “involves a lot of stunts” and “I’m just thinking of my bones.”

A Stranger Things Cameo Would Be Nice Though

The topic didn’t come up, but we would honestly like to see them get a reunion by having Keanu Reeves pop up in the final season of Stranger Things. Right now, the internet is on fire with speculation that the Matrix star might appear in Star Wars, but he seems like he belongs in Hawkins, Indiana way more than he belongs in a galaxy far, far away. Plus, as the star of the 1989 film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Reeves would fit right in given the Netflix franchise’s tendency to cast 80’s genre stars in various adult roles.

Reeves And Ryder Are Excellent To Each Other

Bottom line: are Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder actually married? Probably not, but we’d be the last ones to tell them because their marital nicknames for each other are just too sweet. Husband or just friend, it seems like Reeves has absorbed the wisdom of his first famous role when it comes to his relationship with Ryder: “be excellent to each other.”
