John Wick 4 has wrapped filming, but the plot of the new film has mostly been hidden from the internet. This was until Keanu Reeves shared a bit about the opening scene for the new John Wick installment. It’s no secret that Reeves has gone through plenty of training to turn into one of cinema’s most effective killers, but now he has been training in horse riding. According to a recent interview, Reeves said, “John Wick is back in the desert on a horse. I’m going to hopefully be able to fast-gallop and run.”
Keanu Reeves also stated that this new bit of training is in regard to, “a sequence in the opening scene.” That is some exciting news to share with the John Wick loving world, as it seems that Wick has not escaped his fate from the third film. The John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum ending saw John Wick heavily injured and betrayed by Winston (Ian McShane). Wick also teamed up with the Bowery King (Lawrence Fishburne) to take the entire organization down.
John Wick being in the desert and galloping on a horse could mean a couple of things. This could be a flashback to a time in which John Wick had been in the desert for some unnamed task or job, or Wick is fully healed and some time has passed since the world last saw him. Hopefully, the latter is true, and Keanu Reeves can add horse rider to his growing resume. Whatever the case may be, John Wick 4 is sure to be just as exciting as the rest of the franchise has been.
There’s not a lot to go off for the plot of the new film, apart from returning actors in the aforementioned Lawrence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick. Newcomers for the upcoming film also include Rina Sawayama, Bill Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Donnie Yen. The new rumor titled for John Wick 4 is, Hagakure. The rumored title may lead more to the possible idea that the new installment will be about the code of Samurai. Keanu Reeves as a samurai is definitely what the world needs.
Should these rumors be true, and John Wick is headed to follow the code of the Samurai, then the desert opening sequence may make a bit more sense. John Wick could very well be training under Samurai masters in the desert or tracing his training lineage back to a place where it all began. John Wick did, in fact, use a katana in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Not that John Wick using a sword would be out of the realm of his extensive training.
Either way, John Wick 4 is likely to bring even more excitement and world-building to the already extensive and interesting hitman franchise. The collective world is clamoring and waiting to see Keanu Reeves in his latest installment as one of the world’s most dangerous men. We will, unfortunately, have to wait until March of 2022 to see what the rest of the film brings.
