Keanu Reeves has been one of the most speculated figures to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has continued to pop up in rumors over the years. But with the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanding in its biggest way ever due to a huge number of shows hitting Disney+, the former Ted “Theodore” Logan has once again been tied to an upcoming Marvel project.

Small Screen reports that Keanu Reeves is in talks for a Marvel Cinematic Universe role in a Disney+ series. Exactly which show is not clear in the scoop, but the speculation has been most focused on the possibility of Reeves showing up as Ghost Rider. We have actually heard that possibility in the past and to hear it crop up once again would seem to lend some credence to the rumor. That begs the question: exactly what role would Ghost Rider play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

If Keanu Reeves did end up playing Ghost Rider, there are actually a couple of inquiries we would make. First of all, does this mean that it would be an entire series centered around Ghost Rider or would he be appearing in some other movie or series first? We all know how infamous the Marvel Cinematic Universe is for its post-credits teasers. Would that be how Ghost rider got introduced into the world before spinning off into his own show? If so, where would it feel most appropriate to tease Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

There is another major question regarding Keanu Reeves as Ghost Rider: which version of the character would he be playing? The most obvious one would be Johnny Blaze, the first version of the character in the comics and arguably the most popular. He was portrayed by Nicolas Cage in two feature films that will obviously not be acknowledged in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the Johnny Blaze version is up for grabs. There is actually an established Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Robbie Reyes, who appeared in the television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Would any future incarnation of Ghost Rider acknowledge Robbie Reyes at all? Or would the Marvel Cinematic Universe just start over with a brand new Ghost Rider?

No matter what, getting Keanu Reeves to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an enormous get for Marvel Studios. The actor has continued to be an exceptionally popular force in film and even video games. He recently starred in Bill & Ted Face the Music (read our review) and is about to return as Neo in The Matrix 4. Not to mention his continued success with the John Wick franchise. Basically, it is a great time to be Keanu Reeves as far as his pop culture cache is concerned. Having him pop up in a post-credits teaser as a promise for a later series would make one heck of a buzzworthy moment.

We will simply have to wait and see if these continuing rumors are true or not. If Keanu Reeves does end up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you can bet he’ll make a memorable entrance. Nabbing an actor of Reeves’s caliber would be one of the most memorable additions to the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. If they do manage to cast him in any recurring role, it could be one of the biggest casting coups for the franchise.
