Keanu Reeves Says John Wick Spinoff Is A Whodunit

Keanu Reeves, star of the popular movie John Wick franchise, has a secret he has shared with his fans. Reeves says that the new John Wick spinoff movie, Ballerina, will be a whodunit-type story involving star Ana de Armas investigating the death of her father and taking revenge on the perpetrators. Speaking at Brazil’s 2022 Comic Con Experience (per MovieWeb), Reeves said that the film is about “actually understanding” the past of the title character.
Ballerina will star as the title character, an assassin searching for the person who killed her father, but without knowing the details.
Reeves says:
She lost her father at a young age, and she doesn’t really know what happened. Only that someone came into the house and killed her father, who had a tattoo. And as we know in John Wick, if you have a tattoo, something’s going on.
Ana de Armas is a Cuban-Spanish actor who kicked off her cinematic career as the star of Una rosa de Francia, the Cuban-made romantic film. Armas has been previously nominated for best leading actress in Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a motion picture, music, or comedy. This nomination was for her role as Marta, the patriarch’s caretaker in the 2019 movie Knives Out.
Ballerina is set to be the seventh installment in the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick series and the fifth feature film. It will be directed by Len Wiseman, who co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten. At Comic Con Experience, Keanu Reeves ventured to say that he is not only excited about the screenplay for the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, but he will make a few appearances throughout the film. Reeves states that Ballerina is currently filming and should make its big screen debut, with any luck, sometime in 2023.
Keanu Reeves will himself soon be seen in John Wick: Chapter 4, the latest film in the series proper. Reeves will be joined by returning actors Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick, and seem ready to go on yet another blood-soaked revenge spree. The movie will also feature new characters played by Bill Skarsgård (who is really pulling in all the creepy roles these days), Scott Adkins, and perhaps most excitingly, martial arts legends Hiroyuki Sanada and Donnie Yen.
So far, we have seen a solemn-looking Keanu Reeves having gloomy conversations (as John Wick) with both Sanada and Yen, and several brief moments of action. However, it is unclear whether either character is a foe or ally of the main character. Donnie Yen has been appearing in American films with increasing frequency as of late, including the live-action remake of Mulan and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, while Hiroyuki Sanada recently appeared in both Mortal Kombat and Bullet Train.
While Keanu Reeves is not guaranteed to always appear, the John Wick franchise has been rapidly expanding. In addition to Ana de Armas in Ballerina, we will soon be getting the prequel series The Continental, which will follow the early days of the assassin-friendly hotel featured in the movies so far.
