Keanu Reeves is not only set to reprise his role as the titular character in next year’s John Wick: Chapter 4, but he’ll also be making an appearance in Lionsgate’s spin-off feature entitled Ballerina. According to Deadline, Reeves has entered negotiations to return to his role as the ruthless assassin in a new spin-off starring No Time to Die and Knives Out actress Ana de Armas. Production for the movie is currently underway, with Len Wiseman helming the project from a screenplay by Shay Hatten.
The outlet attempted to reach the studio for comment to no avail, however, it’s understood that Keanu Reeves will reteam with Ian McShane, who portrayed The Continental Hotel manager Winston in the first three John Wick entries. The forthcoming spin-off will follow a young female assassin (De Armas) who targets the people who killed her family. No release date has been announced at this time for the film, which is being produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski.
Another spin-off of the explosive John Wick franchise is being developed as a television series, which will star Academy Award-winner Mel Gibson as a character named Cormac, whose backstory is being kept under wraps at this time. The upcoming show, which doesn’t involve Keanu Reeves in any way, shape or form, will stream for US audiences on Peacock and for international audiences on Amazon. The series will take place in 1975 and center around a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), the manager of the Continental Hotel in New York City, which offers a neutral space for hitmen.
On the motion picture side of things, John Wick: Chapter 4 is scheduled to arrive in theaters March 24, 2023, and John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes. Chad Stahelski directs the latest installment from a script by Michael Finch and Shay Hatten.
The John Wick franchise has been one of Lionsgate’s most successful motion picture series to date, with the first three entries earning nearly $600 million around the globe. The fourth installment should prove to be another financial hit for the studio when it arrives next spring, but even that flick won’t mark the end of the character’s journey. Keanu Reeves is already set to appear in a fifth movie, which recently entered pre-production, with Shay Hatten once again scribing the script.
Outside of assassinating foes who have done him wrong in the John Wick series, Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the titular character in the long-awaited sequel to 2005’s Constantine. Although plot details are unknown at this time, the film is being helmed by Francis Lawrence from a script penned by Akiva Goldsman. J.J. Abrams is producing the film alongside Goldsman, Hannah Minghella, and Lauren Shuler Donner, with Erwin Stoff and Lorenzo di Bonaventura executive producing.
