Keanu Reeves Says Multiple People Badly Injured On John Wick 4 Set
Keanu Reeves recounts how several people got injured on the set of John Wick 4.
The best action film of the decade has officially hit theaters, but according to Keanu Reeves, many stunt actors had to make a few sacrifices to get the movie to premiere. Speaking to ComicBook, The Matrix actor listed out the multiple injuries that happened on the set of John Wick 4, including cut open heads and car accident injuries.
When making a film with action scenes, there is bound to be an accident or two during production (just ask Adam Sandler). And since Keanu Reeves has built a reputation for creating films with excellent action scenes, and the John Wick franchise has been known to see some of the best stunt work ever filmed in Hollywood, it’s no surprise that a few afflictions occurred while shooting.
When asked what kind of injuries happened on set, Keanu Reeves recounted a time when he cut a guy’s head open. He didn’t go into details about whose head he lacerated or how it happened, instead choosing to simply say, “that f**king sucked,” and then apologized for his use of profanity. Without a lot of detail to go off of, it’s hard to say whether the injury made it into the film, and with the magnitude of realistic-looking stunts, it would be hard to tell the difference between what injuries are real and fake in the movie.
Keanu Reeves also mentioned how another stunt performer got hit by a car. The Constantine actor explained that the stunt actor was in the car when it happened and had to go to the hospital to recover from his injuries, but he ended up being alright.
According to Keanu Reeves, all of the performers for John Wick 4 were pretty exhausted by the end of production. He explained the feelings of tiredness to be akin to climbing a mountain and then having a celebratory rest afterward, or like beating a game you were playing. To be honest, we can’t blame the cast and crew for being so fatigued—it sounds like the making of John Wick 4 was full of life-threatening experiences.
Although John Wick 4 is already in theaters, and you can now see the full movie full of awesome stunt performances, here’s a quick glimpse at one of the incredible stunts performed in the feature. In the video, which John Wick 4 and Lionsgate posted to Instagram, a stunt actor throws himself down a moving escalator, tumbling the full story from the top to the bottom. After the fall, Keanu Reeves and his co-stars rush down the escalator, dodging bullets and shooting arrows in the middle of what promises to be a stunt-packed action sequence.
Even though a few stunt guys were injured in the process of making John Wick 4, Keanu Reeves says that the film cast and crew watch out for one another and that there are rarely more than a few bruises, aches, and pains. Reeves even tapped into his comedic side by imitating an official public service announcement and shouting out, “No humans were harmed in the filming of this motion picture!”
John Wick 4 is slated to be one of Keanu Reeves’ best movies, with an estimated box office projection of bringing in $70 million domestically and up to $115 million worldwide. It is already the highest-approved John Wick film on Rotten Tomatoes, with both a critical approval and audience approval rate of 96 percent, officially certifying the film “fresh.”
