Keanu Reeves In Talks For Highly Anticipated Airplane Disaster Movie
Just days after it was revealed that he would voice the villain Shadow in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, word is spreading that Keanu Reeves has his next live-action role all but set up. The actor is in talks to star in Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down, an action movie – something right up the John Wick franchise star’s alley. While plot details are being hush-hush, the Swedish filmmaker has previously made remarks giving bits and pieces of the general idea away teasing that it will have a satirical tone and be set aboard an hours-long flight during which the plane’s entertainment system malfunctions, leaving the bored and irritable passengers irate.
No Word On Who Reeves Will Play
Just like the movie’s storyline, details surrounding the role in which Keanu Reeves is in talks for is also being kept under wraps. Östlund is known for blending drama with dark comedy into his films so we’re hoping that Reeves is either an over-the-top passenger, ticked that he can’t watch his in-flight entertainment, or an airline steward with a short rope of patience for the needy personalities onboard. Either way, we’re sure Reeves will deliver nothing short of brilliance in The Entertainment System Is Down.
Östlund Is A Celebrated Filmmaker
Along with Keanu Reeves, it’s said that the production will also star a handful of well-known international names which makes complete sense when one considers the films that Östlund has worked on over the past few years. This will be the latest title the filmmaker will add to his expansive repertoire and act as a follow-up to 2022’s Triangle of Sadness, which took home the Palme d’Or at that year’s Cannes Film Festival. He first won the prestigious award with his 2017 feature, The Square, which, like Triangle of Sadness, also gained nominations at events like the Academy Awards and Golden Globes
Reeves Isn’t Slowing Down
Since his career took off well over three decades ago, Keanu Reeves has shown no signs of slowing down and we’re completely okay with that. Back then, his name was associated with titles like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Speed, and these days his genre-spanning docket hasn’t changed much – even reprising his role as Ted in 2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music. A master of all things franchises, not only is Reeves known for his turn in the comedic Bill & Ted series as well as The Matrix but his face is now synonymous with another action hero – John Wick.
John Wick
While audiences may still be reeling from the cliffhanger they were presented with at the end of last year’s John Wick: Chapter 4 (in which the titular assassin’s fate was left hanging in the balance), we know we’ll see him again in next year’s Ballerina. Starring Ana de Armas, the John Wick off-shoot will focus on a young dancer-turned-assassin who is out for vengeance after her entire family is murdered. And, while it will be spectacular to see Keanu Reeves reprise his role as the Baba Yaga, there are also other familiar faces involved including Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
There’s also the aforementioned animated flick, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, in which Keanu Reeves joins a mixed voice and live-action cast that includes Idris Elba, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and more, as well as Aziz Ansari’s star-studded comedy, Good Fortune. Finally, sticking with the light-hearted vibes that we love seeing the oftentimes serious action star switch into, Reeves will appear in Jonah Hill’s Outcome, which, like The Entertainment System Is Down, has yet to set a release date.
