Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have been an iconic duo in three Bill & Ted films together, but their next collaboration is going to be pretty different. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are reuniting once again, but this time for a Broadway revival of the Samuel Beckett play Waiting for Godot. The production is set to be directed by Jamie Lloyd and is planned for the fall of 2025.

Waiting For Godot Adaptation Was Reeves’ Idea

Lloyd also revealed that Keanu Reeves approached him with the idea of the Waiting for Godot revival, saying, “it was a no-brainer that this needed to be done.” Lloyd went on to praise the chemistry between the two actors and how their shared sense of humor in both the Bill and Ted movies and in real life “is going to be very beneficial to the production.” In other words, it sounds like this is going to be a must-see for fans of Reeves and Winter’s back-and-forth in the Bill & Ted films.

Of course, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will be playing very different characters in Waiting for Godot as Reeves takes on the role of Estragon and Winter takes on the role of Vladimir. The play follows these two men as they engage in various discussions, arguments, and encounters while waiting for the titular and mysterious Godot, who never arrives. The play first hit Broadway in 1956, with the most recent revival in 2013 featuring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in the lead roles.

Putting Their Acting Chops To The Test

While Keanu Reeves has more than proven his acting bona fides over his decades-long career, Waiting for Godot will actually be his Broadway debut. Of course, he’s hit theater stages before, such as the time he played Hamlet in a production of the play in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Winter, meanwhile, has a couple of Broadway appearances under his belt with appearances in The King and I and Peter Pan in the 1970s.

In other words, it’s been a while since both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter hit the stage, and it’ll be exciting for fans to catch them in a Broadway production of Waiting for Godot this fall. The last time the pair worked together was not long ago, with Bill and Ted returning in Bill & Ted Face the Music in 2020. Before that they worked on Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure in 1989 and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey in 1991.

Jamie Lloyd’s Involvement

Keanu Reeves also made a great choice when approaching Jamie Lloyd to direct Waiting for Godot, as Llyod has quickly become a go-to Broadway director for prestige productions. He directed a revival of A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain in 2023 and is also directing a revival of Sunset Boulevard with Nicole Scherzinger this fall. Lloyd is also on board to produce the revival along with ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live, and Gavin Kalin Productions.

Reeves most recently reprised his titular role in the John Wick franchise in John Wick: Chapter 4. We’ll hear Reeves next in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in December, where he’ll voice Shadow the Hedgehog.
