One Of Kate Hudson’s Sexiest Movies Is Now On Netflix

In the early aughts, it was impossible not to see a Kate Hudson film. The actress is known for being Hollywood royalty due to being the daughter of Goldie Hawn as well as having father figure Kurt Russell. But her roles became note-worthy in their own right. Hudson was part of many varied films from romantic comedies to horror flicks. Now fans can rediscover Hudson all over again in her 2008 film Fool’s Gold, which has just hit Netflix.
Fool’s Gold was not exactly a smash success when it premiered. Currently, the film has a startling 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. But that isn’t to say that it doesn’t also have its merits. The romantic comedy capitalized on Kate Hudson’s chemistry with Matthew McConaughey. That is where the fun of the film lies. Tess (Hudson) and Finn (McConaughey) are a couple in the midst of a divorce. Tess wants to focus on her PhD while Finn is an obsessive treasure hunter. This is the crux of their issue. She’s realistic while he is irresponsible and undependable. But as fate would have it, it isn’t the end for the couple. Finn convinces Tess to go on a treasure hunt with him to find the Queen’s Dowry.
Fool’s Gold is ultimately a romantic comedy, though can turn quickly into an action-adventure. Two people are brought together through circumstance and sure enough, there are romantic comedy tropes abound. Eventually the couple finds their way back to love through banter and extreme situations. Though Fool’s Gold was a critical failure, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s dynamic cannot be denied. The two work well together and have an amazing on-screen kiss in the film, even if the reality of filming it was something else altogether. Both Hudson and McConaughey have confessed that filming the scene was particularly un-sexy (Insider).
Even so, audience members clearly enjoy seeing Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey together. Fool’s Gold is not the first romantic comedy the two have done together. In 2003, both starred as romantic leads in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. The film may be considered a romantic comedy classic at the height of McConaughey’s phase in those types of movies (Vice). McConaughey first broke out as the lecherous townie in Dazed in Confused. He went on to appear in a number of romantic comedies such as The Wedding Planner and Failure To Launch. Nowadays, McConaughey has turned a corner. His portrayal of jaded detective Rust Cohle in True Detective brought him acclaim as well as winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughey continues to prove his acting chops in addition to considering running for Governor of Texas.
Though audiences may never see Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey act in a film together again, this moment in time was important for pop culture. Hudson wasn’t only known for her work in romantic comedies. The actress had a plethora of work. One movie that she will always be remembered for is Almost Famous. Cameron Crowe’s coming of age story reached audiences for a number of reasons. Not only was it a touching story about growing up, but it was semi-autobiographical. Crowe himself wrote for Rolling Stone in his teens. He later went on to infiltrate a high school to work on Fast Times At Ridgemont High (IndieWire). Hudson’s portrayal of Penny Lane is vulnerable as it is intimate. The actress was nominated as Best Actress In a Supporting Role in 2000 for her efforts.
But Kate Hudson isn’t fading away from the spotlight just yet. Though it seemed for a time that Hudson had stepped away from acting, she is making a comeback. For a time, the actress was focusing on her athletic wear Fabletics. But that isn’t all that she’s been doing. Just this year Hudson appeared in Music, a film written and directed by enigmatic performer Sia.
Audience members will also be excited to see that she is attached to the Knives Out sequel. Rian Johnson’s murder mystery whodunnit captured the hearts of audiences and it wasn’t long before he announced Knives Out 2. Kate Hudson is slated to appear in the film along with many other prominent actors. The details of most characters in the film are being kept under wraps. But if the first film was any indication, fans will not be disappointed.
