Karen Gillan came out with an action movie recently and it went so well that there is a sequel already in development. Things move quick here

The latest Karen Gillan action movie has only been out a couple of weeks, but it’s already getting some serious sequel buzz. The former Doctor Who and current Guardians of the Galaxy actress leads the action movie Gunpowder Milkshake, which dropped exclusively on Netflix on July 14. Reviews have been solid and now it seems Netflix is hoping to make Karen Gillan the star of her very own franchise by developing a sequel.
MovieWeb reports that Netflix is already in the early stages of developing a follow-up to Gunpowder Milkshake, which stars Karen Gillan as an assassin named Sam who works as a hitwoman for an organization known as The Firm. However, when she refuses to kill an 8-year-old girl, Sam is not only forced to go rogue, but navigate a gang war she sparks amid a very underground world of spies, assassins and criminals as well. Fortunately, Karen Gillan finds a gang of her own when she reunites with her mother, a fellow assassin, played by Game of Thrones breakout Lena Headey.
If a daring romp through a criminal underworld that relies on code and rules sounds familiar to you, you’re not alone. Almost immediately after Gunpowder Milkshake dropped its first trailer, comparisons to everyone’s favorite action franchise, John Wick, began. However, rather than hide from them, Karen Gillan leaned into them while noting that, while there are similarities, the tone of Gunpowder Milkshake is drastically different enough for the two movies (soon-to-be franchises) to exist without stepping on each other’s toes.
Speaking to IGN, Karen Gillan noted that Gunpowder Milkshake is certainly inspired by John Wick in terms of its plot, its tone can more aptly be described by way of Quentin Tarantino’s two-movie story Kill Bill.
Joining Karen Gillan in the first Gunpowder Milkshake are fellow stars like Chloe Coleman, Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino, Ivan Kaye, Adam Nagaitis, Ralph Ineson, David Burnell, and Paul Giamatti.
Given the Karen Gillan and the all-star cast and a plot that really seems like it could continue to build a robust and interesting world in future installments, one wonders if Karen Gillain will have time to helm yet another project. Since joining the Guardians of the Galaxy films in 2014, the former companion to The Doctor Who star has been on the rise. She’ll reprise her role as Nebula in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder from director Taika Waititi. After that, Collider reports that she’ll appear as the character once again in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. However, the future for Karen Gillan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains relatively unclear after that.
Director James Gunn has noted several times that Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 is intended to wrap up his trilogy of movies. It’s unclear if Marvel boss Kevin Feige will keep the franchise going beyond that, or if Karen Gillan will be part of that future. However, given comments from Dave Bautista that he doesn’t plan to return as the character Drax, it’s possible the Guardians will take their final bow following a planned Christmas special for Disney+, that Gunn is also behind.
So, it’s likely that Karen Gillan will have a few more pops as Nebula before finding time to make fans fall in love with her in a new franchise. It might as well be Gunpowder Milkshake.
