James Gunn had some sway at Marvel when he was making the Guardians of the Galaxy films, but he has pretty much all of the creative power now over at DC. This means he can bring in just about any actor he sees fit, so maybe Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff could be the next big DCU castings? Gillan has already expressed interest, and Klementieff recently said in an interview that she had conversations with Gunn about playing a character (via ComicBook.com).

Both Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff have plenty of experience playing superpowered beings for Gunn, so it almost seems inevitable that we’ll see these two pop up in the DCU in the future. Gillan indicated that she would be interested in playing Poison Ivy, which would be a perfect fit. As for Klementieff, there’s apparently a specific character that she and Gunn discussed, saying, “we’ve had conversations and we’re making plans already,” adding, “There would be one specific character, but I can’t tell you that.”

While Karen Gillan has merely expressed interest in appearing in the DCU, it sounds like there have been some potentially official moves behind-the-scenes for Pom Klementieff. Now fans are inevitably going to go nuts trying to figure out what specific character she’s referring to. Of course, Gunn is known for pulling extremely obscure characters from all corners of comic book history, so guessing who Klementieff might be playing is probably a fool’s game.

But being a fool is fun, so let’s give this a shot. Since Karen Gillan already perfectly cast herself as Poison Ivy, let’s consider what specific character Pom Klementieff is referring to. Since Superman: Legacy is the first film of the new DCU and Gunn is writing and directing it, it’s possible that Klementieff would play a role since Gunn probably wouldn’t mind working with actors he already knows in the DCU’s first big film.

Karen Gillan likely wouldn’t appear as Poison Ivy in Superman Legacy, but Pom Klementieff could easily play a few different characters. If Gunn was going to make her role especially significant, it’s possible that he could cast her as the Daily Planet reporter and primary Superman love interest Lois Lane. Klementieff could also make a great Kara Zor-el/Supergirl, but we still hope Sasha Calle will be able to reprise her role from The Flash.

If Gunn wanted to take a cue from Karen Gillan’s self-casting, he could give Pom Klementieff a more villainous role. If Gunn wanted to go a bit more obscure, he could cast her as Livewire, the electricity-based villain introduced in Superman: The Animated Series. It would definitely be the kind of left-field casting that Gunn excels at.

At this point, trying to guess who Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff may or may not be playing in the DCU is just taking shots in the dark. Instead of wondering what could be, we can look forward to seeing them both reprise their roles as Nebula and Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is set to hit theaters on May 5. Along with Gillan and Klementieff, the James Gunn-directed MCU swan song also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Will Poulter.
