Karen Gillan’s New Action Movie Is Arriving Direct To Netflix
Karen Gillan has yet another action movie coming to screens soon. This one is going straight to Netflix as part of a huge deal.
Karen Gillan continues to pump out major motion pictures and has even carved out a certain role in action flicks that I’m not sure we totally saw coming when she first hit the scene. But she’s leaned into some bigger budget (to say the least films) and has another exciting one on the way which could carry some high octane. Deadline is reporting that Gillan’s new movie Gunpowder Milkshake is going direct to Netflix and it’s lining up to be a pretty cool film (with an amazing title to boot).
Gunpowder Milkshake will be a female-centric cast starring Karen Gillan, Lena Headley, and Angela Bassett. According to the movie logline, they represent three generations of assassins whose stories dovetail on one night. It’s then that will try to right the wrongs of their past and pave a new future. And get used to this trio on the screen together because it looks like Netflix might be even franchising this story. The same Deadline report has it that there’s already a sequel in development as well. Welcome to the new world of movies folks. You buy the second one before the first one is even out.
Karen Gillan and company have already wrapped filming on Gunpowder Milkshake and it’s currently in post-production. Netflix must have liked what they’ve already seen with this film to give it such a definitive buy-in so early on. But considering the cast is top-rate and the story sounds cool, there’s already a lot to get excited about here. STX Entertainment has the rights to the film which they sold to Netflix and have been sitting on this film for some time considering it actually finished filming all the way back in 2019.
Joining Karen Gillan in the production will be director Navot Papushado who’s won multiple international awards for his first feature Rabies. Paul Giamatti is also in the cast as well Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino and Adam Nagaitis.
While Netflix made this a pretty big deal to bring Gunpowder Milkshake to their streaming service, there’s no definitive timeline on when it will actually hit the small screen. In the meantime, we are now waiting on multiple big-budget Karen Gillan films which are currently in the pipeline. She’s set to reprise Nebula in a number of different movies over the next couple of years. After the character was critical to the Avengers timeline, she’s set to reprise the role in Thor: Love and Thunder as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Plus there’s going to be a cameo on the Disney+ series What If…?.
And there are non-Marvel productions for Karen Gillan as well. She’s currently in post-production on Dual in which she co-stars with Aaron Paul. Plus there’s a somewhat meta film coming called Bubble with an ensemble cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Leslie Mann, and David Duchovny to name just a few. It’s about a group of actors trying to film a movie in the proverbial pandemic bubble. So there’s plenty to get excited for when it comes to Gillan, Gunpowder Milkshake included.
