Kanye West actually ran for president. If 2020 wasn’t determined to go down as one of the nuttiest years in recent memory, it is worth reminding you that the guy who sang “Monster” actually got votes to become the President of the United States. Granted, it clearly didn’t work out for him as it currently looks like Joe Biden will become the 46th President of the United States, but that isn’t stopping the entrepreneur and performer from his dreams of political office.

Early Wednesday morning, Kanye West’s official Twitter account posted this picture with a caption that seems to imply he will once again be trying for the highest office in the land in four years:

Deadline reported that Kanye West received over 60,000 votes across twelve states where his name was on the ballot. A sixth of those votes came from Tennesee. It sounds like The Volunteer State might actually be somewhat on board with making a president out of the guy who interrupted Taylor Swift to tell us Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. In case you forgot about that historic moment:

Does Kanye West actually have a shot at becoming President of the United States? Anything is possible. If you had said that a reality game show host or a cowboy movie actor would become the President to folks years ago, they probably would have doubted you. But, as we have seen over the years, it really does seem like the American axiom of “anyone can grow up to be the President of the United States” is not just a nice platitude that we tell children. It really can happen!

If Kanye West spends the next four years building a platform, rigorously campaigning, and integrating himself into the political system, there is no reason to just laugh this off as an egotistical pipe dream. There has been a seismic shift in how we choose presidents after the election of Donald Trump. It has been proven that Americans will vote for and elect someone who has never held political office or been deeply involved in the inner workings of our government before.

So the idea of President Kanye West – would he prefer to be called President Yeezy? – sounds like a joke at first, but it is not something to immediately write off. It will all depend on how much energy and effort the husband of Kim Kardashian decides to put into his campaign. Clearly, he came in too late in the election cycle to make a dent in the 2020 election landscape, but he’s got nearly half a decade to prepare for the next time.

Though you might scoff at Kanye West making a run for President of the United States, never forget that the state of California elected the Terminator and star of Junior to be their Governor. And they elected him twice. This is America. Anything is possible and yes, it seems like anyone could become our next president. Even the guy that revealed his phone password was 000000 on national television.
