What do you do when it’s time to let the world know your hit show has a new costar? Well if you’re Kaley Cuoco of The Big Bang Theory fame and you’re gearing up for season 2 of The Flight Attendant, you may just take to the couch for a cuddle. At least, that’s what she did to announce that Sharon Stone was coming on board the new season of her HBO Max series to play someone very important in her character’s life.
Kaley Cuoco posted a photo to her Instagram from the comfort of the couch, cuddling with the Basic Instinct star. Cuoco included the caption, “Welp, I can finally share this news .. hi mom.” By “mom,” she wasn’t referring to her real mom, but to Stone, who will be playing her character’s estranged mother on the upcoming season of The Flight Attendant, according to Deadline. You can see the photo below.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharon Stone’s character — Lisa Bowden — has chosen to stay estranged from Kaley Cuoco’s Cassie, because of the latter’s alcoholism. Lisa apparently wants nothing more than to keep her daughter out of her life, but for some reason the two will ultimately be reunited. It could be that Cassie needs help only her mother can provide, or part of Cassie’s road to sustained sobriety could involve apologizing for her past behavior. Or — and this is purely speculation — it could be that Lisa’s character will be the victim that sets things off in the upcoming season.
Kaley Cuoco’s The Flight Attendant starts off with something that would rate as a nightmare scenario for pretty much anyone. As the title implies, Cassie is a flight attendant who has a one night stand with a passenger named Alex (Michiel Huisman) in Bangkok. She wakes up the next morning in her lover’s lavish hotel room to find him murdered, but her habitual drinking and tendency for blackouts has left her unable to remember what happened. In spite of his death, Alex appears in every episode of the inaugural season, both in hallucinations and flashbacks.
THR says The Flight Attendant season 2 will begin with Kaley Cuoco’s Cassie Bowden sober, and working as a CIA asset after the events of season 1. She will reportedly wind up witnessing a murder while overseas, which will kick off the action for the new season. Could it be that her mother is the murder victim? If so then, like Michiel Huisman, Stone could still wind up in the rest of the season. Again — just speculation.
The Flight Attendant is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian which includes a definitive ending. Initially Kaley Cuoco — who doubles as an executive producer on the series — thought she was making a miniseries. But the success of the first season made a season 2 inevitable, and in March 2021 it was confirmed. There’s no set release date yet, but Deadline says we can expect new episodes of The Flight Attendant some time in the spring of this year.
