Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson are meeting each other over and over again in the latest trailer for Meet Cute. The film follows Sheila (Cuoco) and Gary (Davidson), who meet in a bar one night and realize that their first meeting may’ve not been their first. Sheila admits that she can travel back in time via a magical tanning bed, which gives her the power to control how her date with Gary will go. The two spend endless nights together, building their chemistry and sparking a true romance. Alex Lehmann is behind the helm of this romantic comedy. Filming for the project began last year in New York City. On August 2021, Cuoco announced that she had wrapped production. The film is slated to hit Peacock on September 21st.

The time loop formula has been used in films such as Happy Death Day, Palm Springs, About Time, and more. Often the creative choice to use the formula revolves around a character discovering that they have been taking things for granted. Perhaps the finest example is the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day, which starred Bill Murray. The film is centered on a cynical weatherman who becomes trapped in a time loop, forcing him to relive the holiday repeatedly. The Chicago Tribune’s Ted Slowik analyzed the film in 2017 and wrote that one of the film’s messages is that people with “free will can choose goodness.” He stated that Murray’s character, Phil Connors, constantly repeats the events of the holiday to achieve a “sufficient measure of goodness.” It’ll be interesting to see whether Kaley Cuoco’s character in Meet Cute goes through a similar character journey through her repeated dates in the film. The trailer suggests that Sheila wants to get the date perfectly right. Perhaps by the end of the film, she’ll realize that no first date is perfect.

Kaley Cuoco in The Flight Attendant

Kaley Cuoco has starred in numerous projects. She co-starred in the CBS comedy, The Big Bang Theory, playing the character Penny. In 2017, she founded Yes, Norman Productions, which entered an exclusive first-look production deal with Warner Bros. Television. The first project under Yes, Norman Productions was the film adaptation of author Chris Bohjalian’s novel The Flight Attendant. The film premiered on the HBO Max streaming service on November 26, 2020. Perhaps one of Cuoco’s most significant roles was voicing the title DC character in the adult animated series Harley Quinn. The actress was announced to voice the iconic character in October 2018. Fans and critics have praised the series for its humor and voice cast. Cuoco’s work on the series earned a Best Voice Actress in an Animated Series award at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards last year. A spin-off featuring Kite Man is currently in development for HBO Max. The series itself is currently in its third season.

As for whether the new Kaley Cuoco romantic flick will be a hit with audiences remains to be seen. Hopefully, the Groundhog Day element and the two leads can convince people to check it out.
