This should be interesting.

While she’s been flying high starring in HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant, Kaley Cuoco will be landing in a fresh destination. Today it was revealed that the The Big Bang Theory star will be starring in a new series titled Based on a True Story. Airing on Peacock, the upcoming project is being billed as a dark comedy with no other cast members announced at this time.
In Based on a True Story, Kaley Cuoco will play Ava Bartlett, and that’s about all we know. Ava is a married woman, but other than that, what her role in the series will be is left to the imagination. We’re presuming she’ll find herself as a realtor, a plumber, or a faded tennis star – the trio of leading characters the show will be following. As the name would suggest, the story will be in fact based on a true story and will see the three characters’ lives intermingling in some sort of way. And, when they get together it’s not just for the plumber to fix the tennis star’s home they bought from the realtor – it’s going to prove to be a tangled web of drama and danger.
Known for his work behind shows like Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys and AMC’s Preacher Craig Rosenberg is joining the team to serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. A big name in production, Rosenberg will team up with Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan to fill out the roster as executive producers. While her name hasn’t been attached to being a producer, it wouldn’t come as a shock to us if the actress also threw her talents that way. In the past, Cuoco has held credits as an executive producer on The Flight Attendant as well as HBO Max’s animated adult series Harley Quinn in which she also stars as the voice of the titular character.
Next up for the 8 Simple Rules star, she’ll be seen in the romantic thriller, Role Play, in which she’ll both star and produce. The feature centers around a married couple whose secrets begin to bubble up around them, causing them both to tread water in order to stay afloat. Starring opposite Kaley Cuoco as the other half of the married duo will be David Oyelowo. Directed by Thomas Vincent, the Studiocanal and Picture Company flick is also set to feature the Academy Award winning Billy Bob Thornton.
Meanwhile, the second season of Kaley Cuoco’s HBO Max series, The Flight Attendant, recently bowed in May. The eight episode follow up centered around Cuoco’s character Cassie Bowden in the next adventure in her life. Though she thought she put the drama and mystery behind her, Cassie was sucked right back into it during the show’s sophomore season. The Flight Attendant has been a major success for the actress, but at this time, there’s no news as to whether there will be a third installment.
Although we know the gist of the plot for Based on a True Story, there’s still so much up in the air. Kaley Cuoco’s character description as solely a married woman leaves a lot to be desired, and with other casting details to be announced, we’ll just need to cool our heels until more of the story unfolds.
