Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park has gone down in history as one of the greatest films ever made. The Steven Spielberg-directed sci-fi adventure film swept the box office upon its original release in June of 1993, inspiring a myriad of other films and spawning a series of sequels as recent as 2022’s nostalgia-fueled Jurassic World Dominion starring Chris Pratt. According to a recent write-up in Gizmodo, the film’s 30th-anniversary announcement has brought with it a series of exceptional collectibles and clothing items for the millions of dinosaur fanatics across the globe.

In anticipation of the monumental event, Universal has announced a collection inspired by the classic color schemes and aesthetics of the 1993 original film, including some cool shades, claw-marked flip flops, and tote bags, and several Jurassic Park-branded retro lunch boxes. This is only the beginning of Universal’s milestone celebration, with a line-up of events and releases scheduled for Jurassic June, such as the recent LEGO drop, which depicts characters and iconic scenes from the film. Branded retailers such as DumbGood, RSVLTS, Loungefly, and BoxLunch will be carrying these epic designs, giving 90’s kids a chance to represent the nostalgia-fueled fandom all Summer long.

The box office blockbuster starred Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum as a team of brilliant scientific minds tasked with touring and testing the recently-formed safari island Jurassic Park, which, when opened, would allow visitors to frolic amongst the Cretaceous creatures of prehistory as simply as one may encounter a lion or a giraffe in a local zoo. Of course, chaos ensues when the dinosaurs cannot be contained, reinforcing themes of corporate greed, respecting the laws of nature, and the unshakable hubris of man.

While the many sequel films in the franchise have received mixed reviews for their attempts to recreate the magic of the original Jurassic Park, the first film in the series has always been hailed as a masterpiece, even pushing modern science in the study of paleontology forward with its massive budget.

Not many pieces of intellectual property can tout the success and fanship 30 years after the original release, quite like Jurassic Park. Other recent 30-year anniversary celebrations of beloved works include the Super Mario Bros franchise, which celebrated 30 years of running, jumping, and saving princesses back in 2015. The hit Bill Murray existential comedy Groundhog Day was celebrated by Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, earlier this year.

If you’re a Jurassic Park fan who’s not currently in the market for a new raptor-print red and green hoodie, there’s still plenty of room for you to celebrate the upcoming anniversary. The official Jurassic World YouTube channel has also released a new look at their web series starring Mr. DNA, the Greg Burson-voiced cartoon gene strand that explains the creation of the dinosaurs to both the audience and the main cast of the film. The InGen-hosted video acts as a fictionalized behind-the-scenes look at the laboratory behind the Isla Nublar outbreak and an Easter egg-laden proof of concept for the future web series.
