Longtime friends and co-stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney are finally starring in another film together with the upcoming Ticket to Paradise, but it was a long road to get there. During filming in Australia, the film suffered production delays at the beginning of 2022 as COVID cases spiked. Roberts was staying in a rental by herself while the Clooney family stayed in a rental above Roberts. In an interview with the New York Times, Roberts admitted the Clooney family “saved me from complete loneliness and despair. We were in a bubble, and it’s the longest I’ve ever been away from my family. “
While many of us had to quarantine and stay by ourselves during the pandemic, Julia Roberts was lucky to have a close friend nearby to help her through the hard times. Hopefully, the wait will have been worth it as Julia Roberts and George Clooney will once again star side-by-side in Ticket to Paradise, which will finally be released on October 21. The film stars the two as a divorced couple who go to their daughter’s destination wedding in Bali to try and stop her from making the same mistake, they made 25 years ago. Ticket to Paradise is directed by Ol Parker, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Daniel Pipski. Along with Clooney and Roberts, the film stars Kaitlyn Dever, Billie Lourd, Lucas Bravo, Maxime Bouttier, and more.
Ticket to Paradise will mark the first time George Clooney and Julia Roberts have worked together since 2016’s Money Monster. The two also starred in Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve together. Clooney will be reuniting with another Ocean’s co-star for his next film, an untitled project that will feature Brad Pitt and that will be directed and written by Spider-Man: No Way Home and Cop Car director Jon Watts. The film stars the two long-time Hollywood leading men as lone wolf fixers who are assigned to the same job.
While Ticket to Paradise will be George Clooney’s first acting role since 2020’s The Midnight Sky, Julia Roberts has stayed a little busier, starring in the 2022 TV miniseries Gaslit, which gave us a modern take on the Watergate scandal. Julia Roberts starred as Martha Mitchell. The cast was rounded out by Sean Penn, Dan Stevens, Betty Gilpin, Shea Whigham, Darby Camp, and more.
Julia Roberts will follow up Ticket to Paradise with two upcoming films, one titled Leave the World Behind and another titled Little Bee. Leave the World Behind will be directed by Sam Esmail, who also writes the script based on an upcoming novel by Rumaan Alam. The film stars Roberts alongside Ethan Hawke, Kevin Bacon, Mahershala Ali, Myha’la Herrold, Vanessa Aspillaga, and more. Little Bee adapts the best-selling novel by Chris Cleave with Katheleen Robertson penning the script. The story follows a young Nigerian asylum-seeker named Little Bee and a British magazine editor named Sarah O’ Rourke. The two meet during the oil conflict in the Niger Delta and reunite in England several years later. In the meantime, make sure to check out Clooney and Roberts when Ticket to Paradise hits theaters in October.
