Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals His Favorite Character And It’s Not Who You Think
It’s no secret that manga artists have their favorite characters. For example, while Akira Toriyama made Goku the protagonist of the Dragon Ball series, it’s no secret that he favored Gohan, with intentions to ultimately make him the main protagonist of the manga. Now, Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, just disclosed his favorite character from Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen anime is surprisingly Toji Fushiguro.
According to FandomWire, Gege Akutami isn’t the biggest fan of Satoru Gojo, which might come as a surprise to Jujutsu Kaisen fans. Instead, Akutami is a really big fan of a character who debuted in the recently premiered Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen anime, Toji Fushiguro—which is his own creation and the character he favors the most.
Toji Fushiguro is basically the Batman of Jujutsuverse.
In fact, the artist’s favoritism towards his own creation is actually something the fandom has consistently pointed out—apparently, Akutami never misses an opportunity to draw Toji.
Some Jujutsu Kaisen fans even pointed out that it feels like every anime arc since Shibuya has some sort of Toji reference or drawing. And the fandom isn’t wrong either, but that’s only because the various Culling Game subarcs are generally a part of a larger storyline. Still, that doesn’t take away from the fact that Akutami never misses an opportunity to draw his favorite character—everyone likes an underdog/antihero.
To be entirely honest, while Jujutsu Kaisen fandom doesn’t shy away from pointing toward Akutami’s “obsession,” they’re not actually complaining about the fact, considering that Toji is very much a fan-favorite character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Of course, there are those who have expressed legitimate disappointment in Gege Akutami for drawing Toji in nearly every possible arc recently, but their numbers are but a few.
Thanks to his intellectual and physical arsenal, Toji rose as a rival to even some of the most powerful sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Diehard fandom of Jujutsu Kaisen actually believes that Akutami’s continuous drawing of Toji makes the character relevant, with the character’s actions shaping the events of the series in both direct and indirect manner. For those who aren’t acquainted with Jujustu Kaisen, Toji Fushiguro is basically the Batman of Jujutsuverse.
Unlike some of the most prominent characters in the anime, Toji doesn’t have any cursed energy, thanks to the heavenly restriction spell that was cast upon him when he was still a newborn—which is why he can’t use curses.
Akutami never misses an opportunity to draw Toji.
As a result, all of his cursed energy was drained to zero level in return for superhuman physiology, including superhuman strength, intelligence, and heightened senses. These traits allowed the character to excel in every skill he pursued, from weaponry, stealth abilities, tactical intelligence, etc.
Thanks to his intellectual and physical arsenal, Toji rose as a rival to even some of the most powerful sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen—which only goes to prove that even anime lovers love an OP underdog; just look at how many people prefer Vegeta over Goku.
