Exclusive: Joseph Quinn In Advanced Talks For Marvel Hero Role
Updated February 2024: This Giant Freakin Robot Exclusive was confirmed and Joseph Quinn was announced as joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is playing Johnny Storm / Human Torch in Fantastic Four: First Steps. The movie is slated to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
Joseph Quinn is near making a deal with Marvel Studios for an upcoming project. According to our trusted and proven sources, the Stranger Things actor will be playing one of the many heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it is still uncertain who he could be playing. However, based on the announced slate of films, we speculate that Joseph Quinn is close to locking down the part of Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s First Family.
Although Stranger Things has been a cultural phenomenon since it first premiered on Netflix in 2016 and has produced many breakout stars, few have become so immediately beloved as Quinn. It makes a great deal of sense that Joseph Quinn would get sucked into the Marvel machine as quickly as possible; quite a number of the original MCU stars have moved on from the enormously profitable and complex franchise and Kevin Feige must have a constant need to recruit up-and-coming actors.
While many announced MCU projects are on the horizon, few are as anticipated and mysterious as Fantastic Four. There have been no confirmed cast members yet, which leaves the roles of Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing all potentially available. Joseph Quinn has already been fan cast as the latest version of the smartest man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he definitely seems like he could fill the role.
Although Joseph Quinn rocketed to fame as the metalhead with a heart of gold Eddie Munson on Stranger Things, he has a resume that indicates he could stretch his persona to Marvel’s liking. Quinn has appeared in HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones, historical series like Sky’s Catherine the Great, and the BBC One series Dickensian, which posited that all of Charles Dickens’s most famous characters inhabited a shared universe. At the very least, Joseph Quinn has that concept down before jumping over to Marvel Studios.
Reed Richards has been played by a number of actors in various films, most prominently Ioan Gruffud in the early 2000s Fox Fantastic Four films and Miles Teller in the attempted 2015 reboot. Most recently, the role of the leader of the original Marvel superteam was played by John Krasinski in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but only in an alternate universe form.
Given that there has been no indication that Krasinski is sticking around for the upcoming Fantastic Four film, we strongly feel that Joseph Quinn might be locked into that Marvel role. The movie is set to be directed by Adam Shankman and written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, and it is likely that some cast announcements will be made soon. Hopefully, we find that Marvel Studios is listening to the fans once again and finds the best Metallica enthusiast to play Mister Fantastic.
If all goes well and contract negotiations conclude, we have high hopes that Joseph Quinn will soon be Marvel’s most brilliant man. However, we will be happy to see him there in any way we can.
