Jordan Peele’s Next Movie Needs To Be A Horror Comedy
Earlier this month Jordan Peele announced that his next movie is coming out on Halloween of 2026, leading many to assume that it will be another horror film. I want that to be true, but more specifically I would love to see Peele’s next movie delve into full-on horror comedy. With three near-perfect horror movies under his belt and a background in comedy, he would be the perfect director to dive headlong into the genre.
Broke Out As A Comic
Before he became known as the best modern horror director, Jordan Peele was an all-star sketch comedian and writer. He broke into the public consciousness with the sketch show Key & Peele, in which he acted, wrote, and produced along with Keegan-Michael Key. But his comedy roots go back even further, to his time on Mad TV, where he acted and wrote from 2003 to 2008.
Shocked The World
Due to his comedy background, audiences were shocked when Jordan Peele’s directorial debut was the socially conscious horror masterpiece Get Out. He then stayed in that genre with his next two films, Us and Nope, which were also received incredibly well. Those three films have proven that he’s a great director, more than capable of delivering scares just as well as laughs.
Success After Success
While I commend Jordan Peele’s commitment to creating pure horror movies and proving he doesn’t need to lean on his comedy background, I think it’s time for him to combine those genres. His first three films all have moments of comic relief, but they are just that, giving audiences brief breaks from the scares.
After three movies with a slightly similar tone, I want to see Peele do something new in the genre, and bringing more of his comedy origins into play is the perfect way to do that.
Horror Comedy Is Having A Moment
Horror comedy is a broad genre, ranging from the goofy mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows to darker examples like Evil Dead 2. Within that broad subgenre, a great director like Jordan Peele would have plenty of room to explore whatever themes he’s interested in focusing on. This creative freedom would let him explore a different side of the genre he’s known for without being constrained by more niche subgenres.
Just Add A Slasher
Comedy horror is booming, and I’d love to see Jordan Peele’s take on the trend. Blumhouse films like Freaky and Happy Death Day have found success in putting slasher twists on beloved comedies like Freaky Friday and Groundhog Day, and while those movies are fun, they lack the thematic depth of Peele’s work. I want to see a true master of the craft elevate the subgenre thematically and stylistically.
Jordan Peele Is One Of The Best Directors Today
Halloween is also the perfect time for a horror comedy to be released. The holiday gets more people in the mood for scary movies, but casual fans are more likely to buy into a hybrid movie with something else to offer in addition to the scares. That would make Jordan Peele’s next movie the perfect opportunity for him to pivot.
I think Jordan Peele is the best horror director working right now, and I’m excited about his next film, no matter what it turns out to be. An announcement that his next movie will be a horror comedy would dial that excitement up and make it my most anticipated upcoming movie. He’s proven that he’s a great horror director, but I think the time has come for Jordan Peele to remind the world he’s also a brilliant comedian by bringing those sides of his career together.
