Jordan Peele Movie Taken Off Calendar, Is It Canceled?
Jordan Peele’s upcoming film has been taken off of Universal’s 2024 calendar, leaving some fans to fear that the film has been cancelled entirely. While it would surely serve as a massive disappointment to Peele’s cult following of comedy and horror fanatics, it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise due to the current state of Hollywood. Many other films have been pushed back or outright cancelled due to the ripple effect caused by this year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Everything We Know About The Movie
While very little was known about Jordan Peele’s fourth film outing, fans noted that the movie was projected for a Christmas 2024 release. The sudden disappearance could mean that the project has been scrapped entirely, or, hopefully, that production stalls caused the film to pivot to a release date in 2025. The untitled fourth film is still currently listed on Peele’s IMDb page under upcoming projects, with a 2024 date, which is still subject to change.
The Movie May Find Another Home
It is also possible that the film has been shifted to new distributors. It should be noted that the release was specifically removed from the Universal slate, without a public comment from Jordan Peele himself. This could hint that the acclaimed filmmaker has chosen to produce his film through another media conglomerate such as Disney or Warner Brothers Discover.
Another Victim Of The Strikes?
The WGA first began their strike on May 1, 2023, before the SAG-AFTRA union joined in July. Together, the combined union forces shut down nearly all film productions across Hollywood, forcing studios to adjust schedules, pivot to foreign markets, and rely on their existing streaming libraries to avoid massive financial losses.
Now that the strikes have finally come to a close, studios are still regaining their footing from the financial disaster, resulting in some films, such as Jordan Peele’s anticipated project, shifting off the release calendar.
Pushed Back Due To Peele’s Busy Schedule?
Of course, the most likely explanation is that production delays have stalled the film out of its projected release window. Jordan Peele is also currently listed as a producer on a number of upcoming projects, providing the Key and Peele co-creator with plenty of work to keep himself busy. One such project includes the Wes Craven remake of The People Under The Stairs, as well as a project titled Goat, helmed by Joe Vs. Carole director Justin Tipping.
Jordan Peele As A Filmmaker
Jordan Peele’s previous films have all served as massive successes in their respective genres, solidifying the comedic actor as a filmmaking force. As a result of his thought-provoking movies and powerful themes, the filmmaker has managed to become one of a few directors who can sell out a theater on name recognition alone. Other auteurs within this category include Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Christopher Nolan. While fans of Jordan Peele’s work will surely be dismayed to wait even longer for his upcoming release, it will surely be worth it in the long run. With Rotten Tomatoes scores ranging from 83 percent to 98 percent, Peele’s current filmography is one of the highest-rated in the industry.
