The Jonathan Majors Court Case Explained
Jonathan Majors case needs to be explained as it seems like new developments take place every week.
The Jonathan Majors court case has been extensively covered over the last few months, but twists and turns in the ongoing saga need to be explained. Known for his roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed 3, Majors has been making headlines, sometimes contradictory, due to his ongoing legal troubles.
On March 25, 2023, Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York City following an alleged domestic dispute involving him and his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The actor was apprehended after a 911 call was placed from a residence in Manhattan.
The following day (March 26), Jonathan Majors was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. The Manhattan district attorney’s office filed a complaint against the actor resulting in charges of third-degree assault (three counts), second-degree aggravated harassment, third-degree attempted assault (three counts), and second-degree harassment.
The court documents outline allegations of the actor striking the woman’s face, causing significant pain and a laceration behind her ear. It is also claimed that he placed his hand on her neck, resulting in bruising and substantial pain. The woman’s identity was not disclosed at the time, and she received medical attention for her injuries.
At the time, a representative for Jonathan Majors refuted any allegations of wrongdoing. His defense attorney, Priya Chaudhry, reiterated her client’s innocence and implied that he might be the victim of an altercation involving a “woman he knows.” “We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently,” she said.
Chaudhry said the evidence includes footage from the vehicle where the altercation occurred, testimony from the driver, and eyewitness accounts from others. The attorney also claimed to have two written statements from the alleged victim (Grace Jabbari) recanting the allegations. “All the evidence proves that [Jonathan] Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her,” his lawyer said.
Additionally, Chaudhry claimed that Jabbari was having an “emotional crisis,” which was the reason for her hospitalization. On March 30, Jonathan Majors’ lawyer shared alleged text messages between the actor and the woman involved in the incident. The messages indicated that the woman recanted the allegations and acknowledged her own role in the altercation.
On April 18, Jonathan Majors’ public relations firm, The Lede Company, and talent management company, Entertainment 360, ended their partnerships with the actor. The actor was also removed from consideration for upcoming film projects and an ad campaign for Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers.
On April 19, more alleged abuse victims came forward and cooperated with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. A day later (April 20), Jonathan Majors’ attorney submitted evidence to the court, including footage allegedly showing the alleged victim uninjured and socializing after the incident that led to the arrest.
However, a judge still granted a full temporary order of protection for Jabbari, with the consent of defense counsel, on April 27. On May 9, Jonathan Majors appeared virtually for a hearing, during which his lawyer claimed to have provided “irrefutable evidence” proving the alleged victim’s lies. The defense requested a decision on a motion.
“The woman’s (Jabbari) claimed location shifts, and her story morphs,” Chaudhry said in the statement. “This is a witch hunt against Jonathan Majors, driven by baseless claims. Instead of dismissing the allegations in the face of the woman’s clear lies, the DA has adjusted the charges to match the woman’s new lies. On May 13, People confirmed that Jonathan Majors was dating actress Meagan Good.
On June 20, Jonathan Majors appeared in court in person with Good by his side, one of the more recent developments that require the case to be explained. The couple was seen holding hands as they entered and exited the court. During the hearing, the defense withdrew a previously entered motion, and Judge Rachel S. Pauley scheduled a new trial date of August 3 for the Majors’ case.
Later that day (June 20), Jonathan Majors filed his own domestic violence complaint against Grace Jabbari at a precinct in Manhattan’s Chinatown neighborhood. According to a copy of the complaint and a sworn affidavit, Majors claimed that she was “drunk and hysterical” and caused him pain and bleeding.
Jonathan Majors also stated that Jabbari had previously attacked him in other instances, although he did not file reports about those incidents. According to Insider, on the incident report form, the police marked “yes” when Majors was asked whether Jabbari was capable of harming him and whether the severity of physical violence had escalated in the past six months.
Jonathan Majors also admitted that he physically grabbed Jabbari to pull her back into the car they were riding inside during the altercation, alleging she clutched at him. “I was worried she would be hurt by traffic,” he said in the incident report. “So I physically picked her up and put her in the car. The actor also says he was left with a large cut on his face after the incident.
He also accused Jabbari of stealing his phone and spending between $6,000 and $7,000 on his credit card following the altercation. Chaudhry later released a statement after the new evidence was submitted, confirming that the police sought to arrest Jabbari.
“Within hours of viewing the evidence and conducting their own thorough investigation, the NYPD found probable cause to arrest Grace Jabbari for assaulting Jonathan Majors.”
During all of this time, Jonathan Majors’ co-stars have been keeping quiet as the case evolves, with only one recently that explained his feelings: Anthony Mackie. Marvel‘s Captain America stated that Majors is innocent until proven guilty and would not elaborate further.
No one knows what will come of Jonathan Majors’ case as it works through court, but everything so far has been explained.
