Jonathan Frakes Hints That The Picard Finale Will Have A Shocking Ending
Jonathan Frakes told an interviewer that "nobody dies" in the Star Trek: Picard series finale, but then quickly seemed to backtrack.
While a lot has already happened on the third and allegedly final season of Star Trek: Picard, cast member Jonathan Frakes is telling fans to buckle their seatbelts because the best (or craziest) is yet to come… or is he? During a somewhat confusing interview with Screen Rant, the actor who returned to his Star Trek: The Next Generation character Will Riker, danced around a question surrounding what audiences can expect to see in the series finale.
Asked point blank if there was anything that he could reveal about the finale of Star Trek: Picard, Jonathan Frakes says that “nobody dies.” Obviously, this was a huge bomb drop of information as the interviewer was clearly taken aback by the actor’s willingness to let something so major slip. But, when the interviewer shared their excitement for the actor’s response and eagerness to see the final episode of the series, Frakes played a rousing round of mind games.
“Is that fact or fiction?” the actor said to the confused interviewer who was now questioning everything they had been told. Asking for clarification on the major Star Trek: Picard reveal, the interviewer was only given another riddle from Jonathan Frakes with the star saying “That nobody dies?” A reference to his role in Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction? we aren’t fully appreciative of Frakes’ wily game of true or false.
This season of Star Trek: Picard saw the exciting return of not only Jonathan Frakes’ Captain Will Riker but also a slew of other characters from the beloved series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Teaming up with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), the latest episodes have seen the gang back at it, duking it out with enemy Changelings to save the United Federation of Planets. Also reprising their characters are Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, Michael Dorn as Worf, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, and Brent Spiner as Data/Lore/Altan Inigo Soong.
To say that Star Trek: Picard fans were excited about the return of Jonathan Frakes and the rest of his ex-co-workers would be a major understatement. From the moment the reprisals were announced, fans were going crazy, eager to see a reunion decades in the making and the well-deserved continuation of the story. While the third season of Picard was to be the beloved Captain-turned-Admiral’s final rendezvous into the galaxy, there is a chance with Frakes’ comments that Paramount+ is eyeing more Next Generation-centered content to come out in the future.
The final two episodes of Star Trek: Picard will soon be making their way to the streaming platform meaning that it’s only a matter of time before we find out how true Jonathan Frakes’ cryptic answers are. What we do know is the final episode of Picard (which will be directed by showrunner Terry Matalas) is ominously titled “The Last Generation”. While this could point to the group’s final adventure-filled tango together it could also spell disaster for one or more of the crew members. The good news is that we only need to wait one more week for the truth to be revealed.
