Joker 2 Reveals Full Trailer As R-Rated DC Universe Expands
The latest Joker 2 trailer is out, and it gives us our best look yet at this chaotic and musical entry to the newly dubbed DC Elseworld franchise. The new footage gives us plenty of interactions between Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, aka Joker, and Lady Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn.
We also learn that we’ll see Joker’s trial in the movie, with Joker taking a swing at the judge with a giant gavel (we’ll have to wait and see if that’s real or imagined).
The bombastic Joker 2 trailer also features plenty of musical moments, including our first time hearing Phoenix and Gaga sing in character. While their singing moments in the trailer are fairly muted, they’re likely saving the big musical moments for when we see the actual movie. Still, with Joker: Folie a Deux being dubbed a musical early on in the marketing, it’s good to see some actual dancing and singing from the two leads.

While the Joker 2 trailer mostly focuses on the co-leads, Joker and Harley Quinn, we also know that Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener are joining the cast, along with Zazie Beetz, who reprises her role from the first film.

Todd Phillips returns to direct the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. Phillips is also producing, and Lady Gaga served as a music consultant on the film.
The Joker 2 trailer, despite being over two minutes long, manages to keep its plot details pretty close to the vest. However, some eagle-eyed fans with the captions on noticed that one of the voiceovers in the trailer comes from Harvey Dent. The line in question is spoken off-screen as Dent says, “They believe Arthur Fleck to be some kind of martyr. Well, he’s not.”
Harvey Dent being in Joker 2 was rumored, but now the trailer has officially confirmed it, albeit very subtly. While Joker’s origins as a Batman villain in the comic were always a mystery, Dent’s backstory as the villain Two-Face has been fleshed out in the comics before.
The Joker franchise has opted to create its own unique backstory for Joker, so it remains to be seen if it’ll be the same case for Two-Face or if Dent will even end up becoming his villain persona by the end of the film.

In any case, the Joker 2 trailer does look great, and it seems like Todd Phillips and Warner Bros may be able to recreate the success of the original, which earned over $1 billion at the global box office and became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
The film also won over critics and earned numerous Oscar nominations, including a Best Actor win for Phoenix. DC fans are certainly happy either way, as James Gunn’s Elseworlds banner allows these kinds of creative risks with DC characters to continue to be made.
It seems likely that this may be the last long Joker 2 trailer we get before the film releases. You can catch Joker: Folie a Deux when it hits theaters on October 4, 2024. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated on this and other DC releases.
