Johnny Depp Can’t Be Redeemed In Hollywood?
An unnamed inside source tells the New York Post Johnny Depp's days as a major player in Hollywood are done for good.
When it comes to everyone’s favorite pirate, Johnny Depp, he seems to be struggling to find redemption in the film industry. After everything Depp has experienced in recent memory, it is unlikely he will return to any major roles, including Jerry Bruckheimer’s new Pirates of the Caribbean installment. An unnamed industry insider recently told the New York Post they didn’t think Depp would ever be the major player he used to be.
“I think he will have a career but I don’t see him being redeemed. I think big-name people in Hollywood will steer clear of him.”

What exactly has Johnny Depp done to effectively end his career as a major player in Hollywood? There was his public trial with ex-wife Amber Heard over abuse and assault allegations. Alleged poor work habits and drug and alcohol abuse, according to multiple sources, may make it a challenge for Johnny Depp to remain working at the same level as in his early years.
Depp’s court case against Amber Heard made national news on legacy media outlets. Now, of course, Johnny Depp denies that he ever abused or assaulted Heard and their court case ended with the jury awarding Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. This is all well and good in terms of legal justice, but the court of public opinion is a different matter entirely.
Johnny Depp was labeled as a “wife-beater” for years, regardless of his guilt or innocence. Big-name studios like Disney, which has always struggled to maintain an image of a family-oriented company, will want to avoid controversy as much as possible.
Johnny Depp’s alleged drug and alcohol issues also remain huge problems for his career to overcome. Hollywood producer, consultant, and advisor Kathryn Arnold testified that Depp was hard to back in any project due to poor work habits and habitual drug and alcohol use. However, according to Insider, Johnny Depp used them as a form of ‘self-medication’ rather than to party, explaining:
“The characterization of my quote-unquote ‘substance abuse’ as described by Ms. Heard is grossly embellished and a lot of it is just plain false. I think I was an easy target to hit because once you’ve trusted someone for a number of years and told them all the secrets of your life, that information can be used against you.”
Unfortunately for Depp, the reasons behind his alcohol and drug use aren’t important in the court of public opinion. Being labeled as a drug addict will force a lot of studio executives’ hands to push you out and effectively cancel you.
Johnny Depp is currently working and living mainly in London and hanging around Europe in general, according to the New York Post’s unnamed insider. The same insider said that Depp recently finished filming the French film Jeanne du Barry where Depp plays King Louis XV. While Depp may have a future in foreign filmmaking, he’s become a mostly sour taste in the palate of American studio executives.
