See Johnny Depp Bring Jack Sparrow Back To Life In Heartwarming Video
Watch Johnny Depp play become Jack Sparrow for a young fan in this heartwarming video.
While Johnny Depp claims he’s been blacklisted in Hollywood, that doesn’t mean the actor has forgotten his trademark roles or how much fans love them. In a heartwarming new video that’s gone viral, the actor falls seamlessly into the role of Captain Jack Sparrow to the joy of a young cosplaying fan.
The video was posted to Twitter by the Johnny Depp fan account Savvy? on Monday. Per ScreenRant, the video was recorded at the Deauville American Film Festival in France which kicked off last Friday. In the video, Depp speaks to a young fan who is dressed up as a pirate. After speaking to the child in French, Depp goes into Jack Sparrow mode, replicating the pirate’s signature drunken stumbling along with his instantly recognizable voice. Before Depp leaves, the child gives him a handwritten card and a stuffed animal as gifts, which he accepts with a hug. You can watch the video below:
IIf some of the reports swirling around about Johnny Depp are to be believed, it might only be in videos like this that anyone is likely to see the actor play Captain Jack Sparrow or any of his other signature roles. One unconfirmed report that surfaced last week says Disney plans to move forward with Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but without Depp’s Jack Sparrow. The rumor says Sparrow will be killed off-screen to explain his absence, but it will be suggested he could have faked his death, thus opening the door for a potential return should Hollywood start looking on Depp with friendlier eyes.
Things started getting more difficult for Johnny Depp in Hollywood after his divorce from Amber Heard. The year following the divorce’s finalization, Heard wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post about domestic abuse. While Depp was never mentioned by name in the article, Heard characterized herself as a victim of domestic violence. Depp fired back with a $50 million defamation lawsuit, claiming it was in fact his ex-wife who had abused him.
In January 2020, the Daily Mail helped Johnny Depp win a huge battle in the public eye when it leaked audio recordings of 2015 conversations between Depp and Heard. Among other things, in the audio Heard admits to physically attacking Depp on numerous occasions, including hitting him with pans, pots, and vases. At one point Heard even says she will likely “get physical” at some point in the future because, “I get so mad I lose it.”
Johnny Depp learned winning a battle in the public eye didn’t necessarily translate to winning a battle in court. In spite of the leaked audio, in November 2020 Depp lost his libel case against the British publication The Sun, whom he sued for calling him a “wife beater.”
Days after the libel case went against Johnny Depp, per BBC America, the actor said he had been asked to step away from his role as the villain Grindewald for the upcoming third Fantastic Beasts film. He will be replaced by Mads Mikkelsen who has at least a little bit of experience playing an evil sorcerer from his time as Kaecilius in 2016’s Doctor Strange.
Johnny Depp’s most recent film – Minamata, about an American photographer documenting citizens suffering from mercury poisoning in Japan – has yet to secure a release date in US theaters. Per Deadline, director Andrew Levitas was told MGM was opting to “bury” the film because of Depp’s failing public image.
