Johnny Depp Starring In A New Production In Honor Of Russell Crowe
Johnny Depp is honoring Russell Crowe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Johnny Depp will be featured in a trailer produced by a film festival as part of an award to be presented to Russell Crowe. According to Deadline, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) will present Crowe with its Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema later this year. As part of the ceremony, the fest will produce a trailer highlighting Crowe’s career and achievements, as is their unique custom.
The trailers are famous for featuring stars who pay tribute to each year’s recipients, and this trailer is set to star Johnny Depp. Crowe, of course, has had a long and storied career as an actor, though he has also spent time in the director’s chair. While he is probably most famous for his starring role in Gladiator, for which he won his first Academy Award, the actor’s resume is quite varied.
From quieter films like A Beautiful Mind to period adventures like Robin Hood and thrillers like Body of Lies, he has proven his talents time and again.
For his part, Johnny Depp is no stranger to KVIFF, having been a guest there in 2021, though he was not an award recipient. Crowe has received many accolades in his career, as Depp has, including three Oscar nominations (Inside Man, A Beautiful Mind, and the Gladiator win) and Golden Globe and BAFTA awards, both for A Beautiful Mind.
Though he is not involved in the in-production sequel Gladiator 2, he has called the film a “smart idea,” and we’d love to see director Ridley Scott figure out a way to give his character a cameo.
When Johnny Depp was last involved with KVIFF, he was under fire in the United States for Amber Heard‘s lawsuit against him, from which he is now planning a comeback after a long-awaited legal victory. In his previous appearance at the cinematic celebration, Depp had produced two films, which he was there to present. The films were a drama called Minamata and Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan, a documentary about the Irish singer-songwriter and former Pogues frontman.
Of course, Johnny Depp himself is no stranger to music, having played with bands Rock City Angels, P, and Pink Grenade, and most recently, the supergroup The Hollywood Vampires alongside Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. Crowe is also a musician, and he will be performing at KVIFF in addition to being honored. His band, Indoor Garden Party, whose album The Musical was released in 2017, will be giving a concert.
There’s no word yet on whether Johnny Depp will actually be in attendance at the film festival or just appearing in the trailer, but if he is there, we’d love to see him step onstage for some jamming with Crowe’s band. The trailer he will be starring in will be the 18th such production made by KVIFF, meaning you probably have a few to catch up on before you see it. You can view previous entries and other videos on the festival’s YouTube channel.
